couple of questons on Blood speaker ambush

Does this card give a Shadowlands Bloodspeaker personality a 2F bonus or does the bonus just apply only once?

Only once. Everything that falls under that list of criteria gets a single bonus from the terrain, regardless of how many of the traits he or she has.

Can Same Old Tricks target Gozoku Sensei. The WOTE rule sheet says Sensei are not Fate or Dynasty Cards.

So? Neither are Winds. They are still cards. Gozoku Sensei is a card and The Same Old Tricks can easily erase its ability if you leave yourself open to it.

Beyond that, it isn't like you need to use Gozoku Sensei multiple times in a turn to have 2 of your opponent's units bowed before their Attack Phase for the rest of the game (and 3 before your Attack Phase). You can get plenty of use out the card without ever risking The Same Old Tricks.

Rules for 28 August 2004

No it says that on the card.

Printed Text "The Master of Five" If any player controls an Oracle of each of the five elements when this event resolves, the player wins the game. Until the end of the game, any player who produces an action from Earth, Air (or Wind), Fire, Water, and Void cards in the same phase wins the game at the begining of his or her next turn.

Errata Text "The Master of Five" # Should read, "...any player who produces an Earth, Air (or Wind), Fire, Water, and Void action..." [Netnews, 26 August 1999]

If any player controls an Oracle of each of the five elements when this event resolves, the player wins the game. Until the end of the game, any player who produces an Earth, Air (or Wind), Fire, Water, and Void action in the same phase wins the game at the begining of his or her next turn.

What does that change? If it changes nothing, why was it neccessary?

It allows keywords of individual abilities to count as well as those of whole cards, which is all that mattered for the original wording but was more narrow than intended.

For instance, if a Shugenja or Spell (or anything else other than an Action card) has an "Elemental Earth Limited" action, but does not have the "Earth" keyword in its title or boldface traits area, using that action is an Earth action but it is not an action from an Earth card.

Fwd from Jeff: [L5R-CCG] [Rules] Experience and name changes

Marty, is this a rules change?

Because, from the AR :

An Experienced card can be overlaid on a less-experienced card even if the title of the less experienced card does not match the trait on the Experienced card, as long as there is an **** unbroken **** chain along the experience levels. E.g., the Experienced 2 Ninja Mystic can be overlaid on either the Ninja Mystic (whose trait reads, "Experienced Hoskei") or Hoseki. [ZF, 10 April 2003]

Emphasis mine, The chain is not unbroken from 1 to 7. Unless I've misunderstood, I was under the impression that unbroken meant EXP1, then 2, then 3 without a gap.

It's not a change. "Unbroken" is a redundant word in that sentence (if the chain is broken, it isn't a chain). It means nothing.

Feign Death

From the archive: Feign Death Reads, "Feign Death 0G 2FV Reaction: Play after a Personality is destroyed to return the Personality to play, bowed, in his previous controller's home, ignoring all costs and restrictions. (Entering-play effects occur. Cards attached to the Personality are not returned to play.) Dishonor the Personality. Lose 2 Honor." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003]

The player who plays Feign Death is the one bringing the Personality into play, and is the recipient of entering-play effects. [JA, email, 9 August 2004]

...the player who plays Feign Death is the one bringing the Personality into play.

The controller of a personality is the last player who brought that personality into play (Diamond rulebook page 55).

Feign Death says where the personality goes, but does not specify who controls it.

Not surprisingly, Feign Death works the way it has for ten years in this regard.

Official answer on Blade of Penance and Storm Heart Please

The original question was if a person would gain honor off of winning a Storm Heart and he has Blade of Penance attached, does the active player get to choose the order of 'winner becoming dishonored' and 'the honor gain from BoP'?

The effects are NOT simultaneous.

Winning happens when values are compared - just like winning a Battle. Reactions / triggers for winning happen. That's when Blade of Penance steps in. Once you finish with all that, move on to the next sequential effect of the duel-creating card (destroying the loser, dishonoring the winner) - just like Destroying cards in a losing Army happens AFTER Yu triggers for losing a Battle.

The Iron Citadel exp

...who or what permanently gains the reaction? Do you gain that reaction as a player? Does your stronghold gain that reaction? Something else?

The same Person that is addressed whenever a card says, "Gain 3 Honor," or "Discard a card," without explicitly specifying someone - the Player who took the Action.

Blade of Penance

I heard that there was a ruling at one of the kotei that the blade of penance worked during an iaijutsu lesson.

Iaijutsu Lesson says, "The two Personalities' Items give no bonuses or penalties and produce no effects during this challenge and duel."

Winning the duel happens during the duel, so the Blade of Penance can't produce effects if it is attached to the duelist when he wins.

That should take care of everything unrelated to Dawn of the Empire for Tuesday, September 7, 2004. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in a clear and distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
