Your Rules for Saturday, September 4, 2004

First, I wanted to note a correction to my response for 9/3/04. I was answering a question about the legality of Shinjo Xushen performing his own Ranged Attack and that of his attached Daikyu in a Combined Ranged Attack. I screwed up my math in the reply, however. While it is perfectly legal to do this, the Combined Ranged Attack is a singe Ranged Attack and only gets a single +1 Bonus from Xushen's trait if he assigns during Infantry Maneuvered, not +2 as my bad math would have indicated. Sorry about that.

Singular personalities

If you already have one copy of a Singular personality in play, can you pay the necessary gold and attempt to bring another copy into play from a province?

Not if both copies are Singular. "You can not bring a Singular card into play if you already control a Singular card with the same name." (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 56)

Event Win conditions...

Lets say you have an event that allows a victory condition at the begining of your next turn, Like "The Master of Five". And someone fulfills the condition for victory, but in between the trigger for victory and the begining of the would be winner's next turn another player uses Shrine of the Sun, or what ever that cancels all on going effects of an event. Would the player still win or not?

He wouldn't win. There is no effect to make him win. Shrine of the Sun would end any effect already generated that "waits" to cause a win at the beginning of the turn. When that time comes around, the effect is long gone.

Open Toku

Ok, this question came up and no one can give me a clear answer locally. In the open environment, is Toku Unique? Can I play with 2 Toku's and 1 Koto in my Open deck?

Yes, you may. You don't have more than 3 copies of cards that count for the Koto / Toku deck limit. You don't have more than 1 unique copy of Koto / Toku nonexp. either. You're fine.

On: Toku, Koto
Tribe

If a Ratling with a printed Tribe trait has a stronger form later on without the Tribe trait he once had, does the stronger form still count as being part of the Tribe he once was (for the purposes of cards like Ratling Nameseeker)?

No. The card either has the trait or lacks the trait. Overlaid Personalities do not not retain the traits of less experienced versions underneath, nor do more Experienced versions of Personalities have any traits from previous incarnations that aren't printed on this level of the card. This applies not only to tribe traits, but Faction traits (see also, "The Grey Crane"), and any other kind of Trait.

That should be everything for Saturday. If I missed your question not related to Dawn of the Empire, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of a clear and distinct subject line. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
