Your Rules for Monday August 30, 2004

Unexpected Strike

Do the new events like Goemon's Ascension that remain in play until used count as an 'ongoing effect' of an event that has been resolved for the purposes of Unexpected Strike?

Being put into play isn't an on-going effect. It is a one-shot sort of thing. Events that remain in play merely avert the "immediately discarded" rule that normally sweeps events into your Discard Pile. Once you're past that specific instance, the Event remains in play until an effect says to remove it from play in some manner. Unexpected Strike will not discard Goemon's Ascension.

Of course, if they have any sort of on-going effect (not to be confused with effects of a Trait that is continuously applied while the event is in play) produced when they resolved initially, those will be ended.

Informant + Summon Earth Kami

Can I create a 1F/1C personality in a battle controled by my opponent and then play Informant ?. Informant says: "target a player who controls one or more Personalities that he or she does not own. You may bow one of those Personalities.". As Informant allows me to bow one of such personalities, I'm targetting a card in the battle by playing informant so the combo is ok with the rule of relevance The only point is, does the other player own the 1F/1C personality I create ?

The player who uses the Effect that Creates a Card is the Card's owner (DE Rulebook, page 102, "Glossary - Owner"). That's the player who used Summon Earth Kami. You can bow a Personality you've created under another player's control with Informant.

Just remember that you'll need Presence as well as Relevance to do this in Battle.

Swamp Harriers / Doji Hayaku Question

I was wonding if according to the "Keyword Rule" I could attach Swamp Harriers to Doji Hayaku for the reduced costs?

No. Family names are based on the card's title alone. The Keyword Rule does not apply.

RULES: Plain sof O-U

I'm confused. So if you get a Plains in a province during your Events Phase and refill it with two cards, do you then:

1) reveal both cards before moving on to the next province 2) reveal only the second refilled card, because that is the one that has been "added to the Province currently being revealed" 3) reveal none of them because when you reveal the Plains you are effectively "done" with that province 4) start sobbing because you don't know what to do

2.

Tadaji Sensei and winning a battle

Does an army have to be opposed to 'win' a battle, even if the army is not strong enough to destroy the province?

You can't "win" a Battle unless there is an Army on both the Attacking and Defending side when you compare Force Totals during Battle Resolution.

palm strike interaction

I'm new at the game but i was wondering if it would work to play palm strike with any personality using hitomi dojo?

Yes. You're Personality answers "yes" to "Are you a Monk?" while casting a Kiho Action. Anything looking for the Monk Trait during that time seems him as a Monk - the Kiho, opposing and allied Personalities with Monk-related Traits, Reactions, etc.

That should be everything that's not related to Dawn of the Empire for Monday, August 30th. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] as part of your clear and distinct Subject Line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
