Combining Range Attacks (part duex)

Marty, after seeing your ruling on Ryuoko and the Yumi of Fire, can you check through this list of possibilities and mark true/false next to each? It seems I may have been going from a mixed-up version of the rules. If you can think of anything major that might effect these possibilities can you flag that as well?

I don't know. I always scored better on the essay portion of the tests ...

I am a Mantis player using the Castle of the Wasp stronghold. I have an overlayed Tsuruchi Nobumoto XP in play and used his action so that he is Cavalry and he has attached a Shinjo Horsebow. The following statements are true and exhaustive to the best of my knowledge.

I went through the rather exhaustive list, and everything seemed perfectly reasonable and accurate with only one caveat that I could see.

13) I cannot announce the use of the Ranged 4 on the Shinjo Horsebow and either of Nobby's Ranged attacks, even if I intend to use the stronghold trait to prevent him bowing to perform one of the ranged attacks.

This one I do not agree with. It is true that you can not pay two bowing costs with one unbowed Personality, but if you can waive one of those costs it should not be an issue.

In the same respect, you can declare an Action that requires discarding the Imperial Favor as a cost even if you have no Imperial Favor to discard, provided you can and do introduce some other effect to either waive or fulfill that cost - like Acquiring Favor, Commanding Favor, etc. One Koku is also used in a similar method.

The same thing goes for using a Ranged Attack that requires more bowing than one Personality can provide: Waive bowing for the first ability and bow for the second, thereby paying or waiving all costs involved in all aspects of the Combined Ranged Attack Action.

In Time of War Question

Each individual honor gain is unaffected by the event, but if that gain would cause you to exceed the maximum Family Honor allowed, your family honor is adjusted back down to the maximum allowed. Then, your Family Honor becomes that maximum at the end of the turn. [JA, 1 October 2002; 28 May 2004]

Sorry if I missed this, but, is this considered an honor loss, since you are going from a higher number to a lower number?

It plays exactly as if your Family Honor were given a Stat-Maximum. All excess increases beyond the maximum happen. They can be copied, redirected, etc. Excess Honor sticks around to make it harder to for penalties to lower your Family Honor Stat and they will get to "kick in" to you Family Honor Stat if the Maximum imposed by In Time of War were removed (say you hit it with Shrine of the Sun). That works just like an excess Stat-bonus or penalty running up against a Maximum or Minimum Chi or Force value on a Personality.

At the end of the turn, all excess Honor beyond the Maximum simply disappears into the Aether. It isn't considered a loss or a gain. When the next turn begins, a new Maximum will be imposed on your Family Honor.

That covers everything from Sunday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in a clear and distinct subject line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
