Underhand's ability: action cards that are political or fate card with

political action?

Can the Underhand be used to search for any fate card that has a political action it, or does it mean only action cards with the political trait?

Underhand of the Emperor says, "Political Open: Discard the Imperial Favor and name a Political Action card."

So, it can only get Action Cards that happen to be Political, either by having at least one Action with the "Political" trait on them, or having Political in its bold-face traits area, or having "Political" in its title.

It will not let you get non-Action cards such as Rings, Followers, Ancestors, Spells, Sensei, or Items.

To Start a Dark Path, Dishonor, and Enlightenment

To Stat a Dark Path has resolved ("For the rest of the game, Dark Rings are not destroyed when Rings enter play, and Dark Rings that were played according to their own text count towards a Enlightenment Victory. These effects cannot be ended or negated."), I'm at, say, -17 honor, and have Rings from four elements in play.

I play the Dark Ring for the element I'm missing (according to its own text, of course). Now, two things seem to happen simultaneously:

a) I lose five honor, putting me below -19. By the rulebook, I am "immediately" removed from the game.

b) I have rings from all five elements in play. Again by the rulebook, I "immediately" win the game.

Which takes precedence?

Hm, triggers causing other triggers, eh? This is one that I think it would be best to toss up to Jeff. I can definitely see the Active Player choosing between conflicting "you win" and "you lose" triggers, however this circumstance is more complex.

You see, "Lose 5 Honor" is not the same as "Lose the game." One begets the other, but that's a resolving one trigger in order to create another.

I'm not sure how nit-picky this needs to be, so I'll run it by Jeff, but my instincts tell me that "lose 5 honor" and "win the game" are not conflicting simultaneous effects. You'd resolve them both at the same time just fine. You go to -22 Honor while winning the game. Then you'd trigger "lose the game," but since you've already won, it wouldn't have time to resolve.

But, again, forwarded to Jeff.

OK, that's everything from Saturday, June 12, 2004. If I missed your question, please repost it with a clear subject line containing the flag [RULES]. I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.

Thanks folks,
