Ruling...timing and such...
The Challenge is Cancelled via Ashihei's Trait. Can Iweko issue his challenge for the refusal of the I. Challenge?
The dual use of the word "challenge" could get confusing here.
Ashihei refuses the duel. You play any initiate any triggers and play appropriate Reactions to refusal now (including Iweko and Seppuku).
Once that timing has passed, you move on to the next applicable effect of Iaijutsu Challenge - "dishonors the other player's Personality and causes the other player to lose 7 Honor," at which point Ashihei's trait will cancel the Iaijutsu Challenge Action.
Player is defending or attacking with 2 personalities, one of which has Hardy Infantry attached. the Unit with Hardy Infantry is Wedged. At the end of the battle, what happens?
If your units were attacking, allying, or this was the last battle, your units are going to be sent home from the battle before the "at end of battle" or "when a battle ends" triggers take effect. That means Wedge will kill your unit after it returns to the fief and is no longer in an army, making Hardy Infantry's Reaction unplayable.
If you are the defender and there are yet more battles to resolve, your unit will still be at the battle until the end of the last battle, and consequently still in an army to move the Hardy Infantry.
Fun with Yajinden...
1) Can I redirect the permanent reduction of 2 chi (in the last sentence) with Yajinden?
Actually, no. Yajinden triggers on loses from Maho Effects, not Maho - Costs -. That's the same reason the Air Dragon can be targeted to cast Kiho, and has reminder text to point this out.
"Reaction: Once per turn, before one of your Personalities loses Chi due to a Maho effect" (card text)
Retro L5R Questions
Obviously, I was ignored the first time, so I'm going to ask my questions again. Please answer them.
I answered your question in a previous digest yesterday. For the long answer, check that. For the short answers:
1.) Your opponent
2.) Yes
3.) Delayed
OK, that seems to bit it for Saturday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in the Subject Line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
