Rules for 2 June 2004
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Sorry this got a little lagged. Work, tournaments, and airport pickups made the prior few days difficult. Not to worry, I'll catch everyone up this afternoon.
To make ammends, I'd highly recommend checking your area to see if any theater is running "Twilight Samurai," a recent film import from Japan set three years prior to the Boshin War at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. I saw it this past Friday night, and I have to say that it really lived up to the hype and critical acclaim it received on both sides of the Pacific. Bring your glasses if you need them, since the film is cleanly subtitled in English.

Forward Observer Q
Does this allow you to use other cards, such as Well Prepared after targeting the Terrain with Forward Observer?
My copy of Forward Observer says that the - Terrain - produces effects as if I had legally played it. This only impacts the effects of the Terrain, and won't have any impact on Well Prepared. I Well Prepared my opponent's Battlefield of Shallow Graves, he's still the player that can drop Well Prepared, not me.
New rules Question
When i was a kotei I used control the field to remove my opponents Strategic Crossroads and replaced it with my own. Now I had create presents with a tireless assault. so the question is does his personalities now gain the + 2 force from my Strategic Crossroads?
All his Personalities who moved into the battle by means of Actions will have +2 force while your Strategic Crossroad is in play (card text). It doesn't matter whether you play Strategic Crossroads before or after they move.
2 rules questions
1. Can I use Armed & Ready to straighten my personalities bowed by Barren Fields?
Yes. Barren Fields is a Delayed Terrain, and according to page 82 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook, you resolve the effects of Delayed Terrains immediately before the Battle Action Segment ends. That means it bows you befor ethe Resolution Segment.
Meanwhile, Armed and Ready says that you play it at the beginning of the Resolution Segment. That means Barren Fields is always done bowing cards before you can play Armed and Ready.
2. Can Fall on Your Knees cancel Armed & Ready?
No. As noted above, Armed and Ready is played during the Resolution Segment, which is after the end of the Battle Action Segment. Fall on Your Knees can only be played during the Battle Action Segment, as per its card text.
Summon Earth Kami question
How many PH this personality card has? I want to know because of "To Do What We Must", "Show Me Your Stance" , innate duel of PH from Kurorito etc.
If the stat is not defined when the card is created, the value defaults to 0.
Attaching/Death Questions.
Is it legal to do the following.
Iuchiban is in play. I announce the attachment of Kokujin's Daisho to Iuchiban, declaring that I will destory Iuchiban as an addition cost of attaching said card. Can I then Feign Death Iuchiban, returning him to play then attach a +7/+7 Kokujin's Daisho to him?
I want to ask Jeff about this one just to be sure. Forwarded.
The Targeting of Battle Actions...
If a card in the current battle produces an action, can that action target cards outside of the battle?
Yes, unless the Action explicitly restricts the targeting with words like "opposing" etc.
Fushin vs Clan Champion
In other words - as a Shadowlands player, if Hida Kuon is dishonored, can I force him to move into my army (while remaining under the Crab player's control)?
I'm still trying to get an answer on this with the Rules Team. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Isawa Jun
Is the Force of the follower "set" once it's attached?
Yes. It isn't a trait of the Follower Token, but part of the effect of the Reaction making the Follower Token as a one-shot.
That looks like everything from Wednesday. If I missed your question, please repost it and I'll get to it at the first opportunity.
