Your Rules for Saturday, May 29, 2004

Heart of a hero + Be prepared to dig 2 graves

If I sacrifice my personality to play Heart of a hero, and in response play Be Prepared to Dig two graves, will my personalities in the battle get +2 or +5 force ?

Not going to work. You need to drop Be Prepared in response to your Personality dying, which is the payment of costs for Heart of a Hero. Heart of a Hero hasn't resolved its effects yet, so it won't affect Be Prepared. You'd need to drop Heart and then find some other way to kill another Personality of yours, or simply live with the mere +2/+2.

Or you could kick the Be Prepared to Dig Two Graves target out of the battle and reel him back in again with zany movement-Fu.

Another RED Q

If the opponent has no cards in his hand, can he target my guys with actions? I'm saying no, since the discarding is an extra cost that has to be paid, and if you can't pay all the necessary costs, you can't do it.

It is not a cost. It doesn't say cost anywhere. It is an effect, and you do it after targeting, so even if you have 1 card in your hand, you can play it and then fail to discard due to having no cards.

farmlands/simple huts

Does the reigoin farmlands coutnt as a farm for the use of simple huts?

Nope. You can't break up the word "Farmlands" into "Farm" and "Lands." It does not count as a "Farm Card" per the Keyword Rule. You can't break up "Farm" and "er" from the Tokens either.

No simple huts love there. You'll have to settle for the half-dozen other farm cards out there.

RULES QUESTIONS

Daidoji Kikaze defends province #2, An attacking Army is attacking province #3. There are no defending personalities at Province #3 and no attacking personalities at #2.

Resolving battle at #3.

May the Crane player with Kikaze at province 2 use Kikaze's trait to allow Kikaze to play steel on steel (or To Do, etc...) targetting a unit in the army attacking #3?

No. Kikaze isn't at that battle. His trait in no way puts him there. All it does is let you wave the rule of Presence and anything similarly worded.

Iron Pillar "negates" the destruction of the personality being used to pay the cost of the To Do What We Must. Does the To Do What we Must Still Resolve?

Not unless you use further resources to pay the cost, as per page 72 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook "Canceling Actions and Negating Effects." You can try to destroy your Personality again, or let the Action be canceled due to failed payment and return it to your hand.

OK, that's it for Saturday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in the subject line and I'll get to it at the first opportunity.
