Your Rules for Sunday, May 25, 2004

The Meeting Place

The Meeting Place

"Battle: Move one of your Ratling Personalities home. This may target each Personality once per battle."

Can this send home a bowed unit?

Yes. I think it safe to presume that was supposed to be the cool power of the Stronghold.

And Formations. Can you continually use the ability on the Formation until you can no longer pay for the ability or until the formation breaks?

Pretty much. Outside effects could get in the way and some cards have build in limits (Kiss of the Scorpion) but nothing in the rules will stop you. That's how Formations were intended to be played.

Isawa House Guard/Danjuro

Can I use the Isawa house guard during the resolution of a battle to straighten my Shugenja in that battle before they go home?

No. They go home bowed. That means they are either home bowed, or in the battle unbowed. Once they aren't in the battle, you can't use the House Guard anyway.

If someone targets my Shugenja with Well-prepared (that is straightened with the intent to bow him), and I redirect to Danjuro, do they now have to Unbow Danjuro or can they allow the action to fizzle?

As the rulings currently stand, they have to straighten Danjuro. We are presently working on a fix to this issue.

3 Questions.

#1. Can you overconfidence a weapon? I don't think so.

Overconfidence says, "Reaction: After a Personality gains a Force bonus greater than or equal to his printed Chi, bow that Personality. The Personality cannot straighten during his controller's next Straighten Phase."

You certainly can't target a Weapon with Overconfidence - unless it is also a Personality, which I do not believe is currently possible by I make it a point not to underestimate the amount of suffering Leon could introduce into my life at any given moment.

You certainly CAN target a Personality who just attached a weapon if the Force Bonus gained from the Weapon is greater than or equal to the Personality's printed Chi.

#2. Say I have Castle of the Wasp, and Hiro Exp. Can i use the castle's ability t o do a range 5 without bowing, and then as my next battle action bow him to do another range 5?

Assuming he's still alive for your next battle Action, sure you can.

#3. For Ratling Conjurer, it says give a bonus to all ratling "cards" does this include ratling follower tokens and ratling personality tokens?

All Follower Tokens are Cards, as per the Diamond Edition Rules.

There are no effects that produce "Ratling Personality Tokens" in the game.

Rules Question: Kaneka Uber-Tactician

If Kaneka somehow loses the Tactician trait (through, say, Bayushi Aotara), can he still perform Tactical actions?

No.

On: Kaneka

I ask only because he has the specific text '...may perform any number of Tactical actions...' which is not removed by Aotara.

That trait is only supposed to interact with him on the basis that he already has the Tactician Trait. It just removes the normal limit.

OK, that looks like everything for Sunday. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in the subject line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.

Thanks,
