Your Rules for Tuesday, May 18, 2004

Outer Wall trigger

If my opponent has had an Outer Wall in his hand, he could save Seruma, reducing the range attack strength. But, when he could played Outer Wall?

1) When costs are paid. 2) Other.

Immediately before resolving a Ranged Attack effect. In the case of Tsuruchi Technique, this will be after all costs are paid and immediately before the effect of the Action resolves.

RULES

If I have a Summon Earth Kami attached to an Agasha Seruma, and have already bowed her to cast it this turn, is Asako Shiwasu prevented from casting the spell, as if it was attached to her?

She is prevented from casting Summon Earth Kami again since you've already used the Action and the Action specifies that it is "Once per turn." It doesn't matter who is casting the Spell, it can only have its Action successfully played once in a given turn.

Goshiu No Shiryo honor loss question.

Well, now with the fact that you can use Goshiu No Shiryo's ability with Diplomatic Apprentices, able to target multiple personalities and target personalities mulitple times, how does the honor loss work on personalities who have been targeted three or four time? Do they lose 2 honor for each time they were targeted, or do they lose one lump sum of honor?

Each ongoing effect of taking the Action will produce its own separate 2 point loss.

More Lotus at Dusk confusion

Martin,

On May 2nd you issued a ruling that says that the following is a valid set of actions:

1. Play Lotus at Dusk 2. Take free formation action to play Blade of Thorns 3. Take the fear action on Blade of Thorns 4. Take my Lotus at Dusk action.

So what I want to know is how do I know what cards are valid for the follow-up actions and which aren't? If I interpret your ruling correctly a card like Brutal Confrontation is a valid secondary action while Speed of the Plains is not.

Neither Brutal Confrontation nor Speed of the Plains can give you extra Actions while you control Lotus at Dusk. Both action-gaining effects are themselves generated by Actions, and Lotus at Dusks forbids you from gaining extra Actions from other Actions.

Blade of Thorns gets around this because it has a Trait that triggers an Effect when it enters play. It is not attached to the "Limited," "Open," "Battle," or "Reaction" tags like an Action is. It is purely a Trait with a triggered effect. As such, Lotus at Dusk pays it no mind.

Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng

I know this has been mentioned on the list before, but I can't find it in the archives:

How does Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng get the tokens in the first place?

Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng - Experienced gets it tokens by overlaying the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng nonexperienced.

That's the only way I'm aware of, unless someone has a crazy scheme to turn Summon the Dead and the Mask into Personalities and then use Sympathetic Energies to move the Porcelain Tokens from Summon the Dead to the Mask.

Where's Leon when you need him, huh?

stay your blade + taut bowstrings

If a player wants to play stay your blade on one of his samurai, I kill the samurai with taut bowstrings, will that cancel stay your blade?

I just answered this question on Friday, in full detail.

The short answer is "yes," but since it was canceled due to non-payment, Stay goes back where it game from, rather than directly to the Discard Pile.

Goju Arai Q

Is his trait considered a Force bonus? Can I use cards like Overconfidence and ISOTF to eliminate the bonus, if it is one? I'm pretty sure it is, since the rulebook says "Any time the current number on a card changes from value to a higher value is considered a bonus".

It is a Force Bonus.

Yes, you can play Overconfidence off of it.

No, In Search of the Future won't reduce the bonus, since it is from Arai to himself, and he is in the same unit as himself.

And that's it for questions posted on Tuesday, May 18, 2004. If I missed your question, please repost it with the flag [RULES] in the subject line and I'll get back to you at the first opportunity.
