Rules for 12 April 2004 Part II - Jeff Strikes Back!

Martin Lund, sent 13 April 2004 to the l5r-ccg mailing list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Here are two replies I got from Jeff regarding two questions from this rules digest I punted to him.

Talk about timingly service!

To help you get to the meat of things, I'm employing the [JEFF] Flag down below to highlight where Jeff is speaking.

Shinjo House Guard double-assignment [RULES] question

Shinjo House Guard says, "After the Cavalry Maneuvers Segment, if Shinjo House Guard is the only Follower in this unit and their Personality has the Cavalry trait, assign this unit to attack, or defend."

Will Shinjo House Guard let a unit which has already assigned, reassign?

Also, what keeps Cavalry units from assigning once during Infantry Maneuvers, and once again during Cavalry Maneuvers? Can you only assign units while they are in your Fief, effectively, and once they are assigned successfully, they are no longer in the Fief, hence no longer elligible to be assigned?

[JEFF]

Wow. That loophole's been in the rules, what, nine years now, and it's only being found now? Utterly amazing. Even I didn't know that one.

Yes, only a unit in one's home may assign. No, it's not actually in the rulebook.

[END JEFF]

[MARTY] So, you can only assign units in your home.

On to the next inquiry.

Hey Jeff,

I wanted to run this one by you.

Kuni Juniya says: "After the end of the turn, return the card to the target's hand."

I know this will resolve before any "Beginning of turn" effects do, but who is the Active Player when it happens?

[JEFF]

The player whose turn just ended.

[END JEFF]

So now we know, and knowing it half the battle!

Tune in next time as Jeff explains the formation of Crop Circles and the Grand Canyon. ;-)
