Question

If you use Force of Will onto someone with the sword that has 15 chi for example then she would have 15 p honor... Lets say she dies (losing the sword) what would be the PH on her?

Her Personal Honor is set to 15 for the rest of the turn or until something else changes it.

rules for 12 March 2004

The Plains of Otosan Uchi allows both cards to be revealed as well as letting you choose the order.

So the difference is that the cards are revealed as part of the Events Phase, rather than the 'Barracks (and other cards) ability triggering after the cards have been revealed?

Right.

Kihos and not bowing.

Questions that came up in play today.

Togashi Satsu is bowed. Am I able to target him with, say, Sharing Strength, or any kiho for that matter, and play the kiho?

A Personality who can cast Kihos without needing to bow may cast Kihos while bowed as long as the Kiho itself does not require an unbowed Personality.

Mirumoto Gonkuro is being played out of the Temple of Hoshi. He has a Takao's Jingasa attached and is currently bowed. Is he able to perform kihos?

Yes, unless the Kiho requires otherwise.

Mirumoto Tsuge has the Hoshi House Guard attached. He performs a Palm Strike in battle (once again, playing out of the Temple of Hoshi). Since he is considered a monk whilst casting the kiho, is the reaction on the House Guard usable on the Palm Strike?

No. Hoshi House Guard cares whether is is a Monk AFTER he casts it. [card text]

I Amush a bowed Shosuro Maru. Since the Ambush occurs in my action phase, can Bonds of Fate be used to bow my personality attacking in the Ambush?

No. During an Ambush it is only an Attack Phase. The Action Phase is suspended until that Attack Phase ends. You can only be in one phase at a time.

A player losing enough honor to lose the game will lose the game before he can share that loss with another player via Bayushi Kaukatsu. Is this a correct statement?

Yes. Kaukatsu copies the loss "after" it is suffered. [card text]

rules for 12 March 2004 (confusion)

If I attach the Ruby to a personality, then bow him to bow one of my opponent's personalities, and then (during the subsequent Attack Phase) I "Tireless Assault" that personality (with the Ruby) into a battle, take the province, and go home bowed, what happens during the subsequent Straighten Phase to the original target of the Ruby?

A) Since the Ruby is bowed, it's still active, and the original target cannot straighten.

B) As soon as the personality (with the Ruby) straightened due to "Tireless Assault", its effect ended. Regardless of what happened to the Ruby later in the turn, the original target was free of all restrictions at that point, and he can now straighten.

B.

I really don't get this answer. If I tireless assault my unit in and choose to leave the ruby of iuchiban bowed

But you can't do that. A card that "may remain bowed" may only ignore the normal straightening that occurs during the Straighten Phase.

If the answer is B, I assume that means the Discard-to-destroy-the-Ruby effect ended as soon as the bowing restriction ended. Is that right?

"While the Ruby remains bowed and in play, the target cannot straighten and his controller may, as a Limited action, [...]"

The restriction against straightening and the ability to destroy the Ruby have the exact same duration. One cannot go away before the other does. This is irrespective of any rulings on what "may remain bowed" means.

Stone breaker

Hello, if The StoneBreaker doesn't have any follower attached, does it have 6F or 0F?

0. [card text] If it has no Followers, it has no unbowed Followers.

rules question - wedge/overwhelmed

Hi! Player A plays Wedge on his only unit in this battle. Player B plays Overwhelmed. What happens: A) Player B destroys his unit as a cost, player A destroys his as effect; B) Player B destroys his unit as a cost, player A cannot target his unit, action ends?

B.

Wedge prevents Player A from targeting his unit and all cards in it with any actions. That includes other players' actions that force him to pick a target for some of their effects (like Overwhelmed and Shosuro Maru).

Any action that is ever targeted is always considered targeted, even in game situations where there are no alternative choices. [DE p. 72]

On: Wedge
Ambush

A friend of mine was saying that you have to chose a legal defending unit when doing Ambush, but all the rules archive says is that you have to chose a legal attacking first. So I would say I could choose any defending unit I want. Is that correct?

The latest printing of the card has the answer right on it:

"Limited: Declare an additional Attack Phase. Target one of your units that can legally assign to attack and another player¹s unit to assign to defend (even if illegal)."

Enough Talk

Can you Enough Talk the abilities on the Winds?

If a Courtier Personality bows to pay the action's cost, yes. Otherwise no, since a Personality is not performing the Wind action.

Yu, Pick your Battles, etc

- Does this mean you may not use Yu when you lose a battle?

I don't understand the question. The rulebook says the Yu trait gets used when the cards with it lose to another army. Isn't that the answer right there?

Oops, sorry. Should have read "Tie a battle". Can you use Yu in the case of a tie?

No. Battles are not like duels. A tie is different from a loss.

Shujen x Kuro's Fire.

So, what was the final answer on this? Shujen does something about Kuro's Fire or not?

Effectively, no.

Corrupt Officials

For corrupt officials, is bowing for gold an ability of a holding?

Only if it begins with "Reaction:". Most Gold production is not an ability.

Ratling Tokens and the Big White Rat & Yu

Kan'ock'ticheck (sp?) Attaches recently destroyed ratling followers from other personalities. Tokens are removed from the game whe ndestroyed. Can the Big White Rat attach Ratling follower tokens after they are destroyed and before they leave the game?

No.

The Yu trait let's you destroy opposing cards when in the losing army during resolution. Can the use of Yu change the outcome of the battle?

No. [DE p. 93]

Is the winner set in stone before Yu happens?

Yes. [DE p. 82]

rules question - Iuchi Katsumi

Hi.

I can destroy or bow a weapon token to use a abilities of Iuchi Kastumi?

Only if it is considered an Item as well as a Weapon. Not all Weapon tokens are. You need to read the card that created it.

City of Remembrance question

May I use the cost reduction of City of Remembrance for shadowlands personalities ?

The cost reduction applies to all Personalities that have the "Nonhuman" trait, the "Shugenja" trait, AND have either the "Unaligned" or the "Phoenix Clan" trait (or both). Note that the "Nonhuman" trait can be printed directly on the card or it can be caused by other traits, such as "Creature", "Oni", and "Naga".

Typical Diamond-legal Shadowlands Personalities do NOT say "Unaligned" on them. The City won't lower their costs.

Question

Does Isawa Wazuka has the water trait for purpose of renewed energy fully effect?

Wazuka does not have the Water trait. That also means she is not a Water Shugenja.

One of her abilities has the Water trait -- but the only time that changes whether the entire CARD is considered to have the trait is when the card is an Action card.

Gifts and favours

this is gonna sound like a real dumb question, but do u need a gifts and favours in play before you can search your deck for one?

No.
