Otomo Motoshi
Here I am with another newbie question. Can I play Otomo Motoshi for 2 less gold or gaining his personal honor?
No. He does not swear fealty until after he enters play. You make the choice to reduce his cost by 2 or gain his Personal Honor while you are buying him. He isn't a member of your Faction yet.
rules question: shogun's barrack and event phase
hello!
shogun's barrack goes:
"Political Reaction: Bow The Shogun's Barracks and discard the Imperial Favor when you refill a Province to refill it face-up. You need not discard the Favor if your Wind is Akodo Kaneka."
An event is revealed within my event phase,I use shogun's barrack to refill the province face up.
What happens if ANOTHER event is revealed? Does it resolve?
No, although it will next turn if it is still in that Province during your Events Phase. Each Province is only checked once for an Event resolving.
RULES Clarification
Jeff Alexander answered the following question:
Moto Gaheris Question
Unicorn Clan Champion*Moto Clan Khan*Cavalry*Double Chi*Experienced*Unique Gaheris will only join a Unicorn player. Opposing players cannot play Action cards during the Battle Action Segment of a battle containing Gaheris unless the Action removes Gaheris from battle.
If an opponent has no personaliteis in the battle, could the opponent or ally of the opponent in theory play actions to bring personalities into the battle to opposed Gaheris, like say Tireless Assualt?
Yes.
Can somebody explain this answer?
Some cards that talk about "opposing players" mean anyone who has units opposing yours right now. Others always mean the leader of the other army. Remember, L5R is also a multiplayer game, so the two are far from equivalent. Unfortunately, since one-on-one play is so dominant, for many years the cards did not strongly stress wording that clearly differentiated the two. So, when the current definitions were made a base set or two ago, they were based on those pre- templated wordings so there'd be the least amount of confusion overall across all tournament formats. (The rulebook isn't the Current Storyline Format rulebook. It's the L5R rulebook.)
Sometimes, no one at all fits the definition of "AN opposing player". This is the case with Gaheris against an empty army. His trait only applies to players who control units opposing him -- which is why it doesn't stop someone who doesn't have anyone there yet from moving one in.
Nezumi question.
My question concernes the following: Warrens of the Nezumi (all your Ratlings have the ability "Battle: Bow and destroy this card to destroy an opposing follower)
Kan'ok'ti'chek (whenever one of your Ratling Followers attatched to your Ratling Personalities is destroyed, return it to play attatched and Unbowed to [this personality])
Ratling Archers (make a RA 2 attack once per turn without bowing).
Lets say they are attatched to Yo'eetr or some such, they use their attack, and then blow themselves up to destroy an opposing follower, they get re-attatched to Kan'ok... can they use their RA again? Or does the "until end of turn" apply still after they are dead?
By default, everything in L5R applies after the card is dead, since leaving play does not automatically cause any effects to end. The Archers' ability has been used this turn. It cannot be used again.
Kuro's Fire question
I know this has probably be asked but can range 0 attacks from Kuro's Fire destroy 0F followers?
A normal ranged 0 attack from anything can destroy a 0F target. [DE p. 90] After all, zero does meet or exceed zero.
Fall on Your Knees versus Naval Invasion
Can a player play Fall on Your Knees to cancel a Reaction that was taken in Reaction to a naval invasion action such as No Hiding place reacting to a Ranged Attack taking as the naval invasion action?
In this case, no.
The ranged attack is the first Open/Battle action. More importantly, taking it marks the start of the first opportunity to act.
No Hiding Place is a Reaction to that action that, in this case, is played before the action (since it changes what the ranged attack is allowed to target). That puts it before the first opportunity to act. But it's legal because it's reacting to the ranged attack action.
Reactions to No Hiding Place aren't allowed.
On the other hand, Fall On Your Knees *could* cancel Tsuruchi Technique's Reaction, since that isn't played until the ranged attack effect actually happens. At that point, the first opportunity to take a Battle action has passed, since you're already in the middle of it. You are no longer "BETWEEN the start of the Battle Action Segment and the first Battle or Open action opportunity".
