Greetings,
Correction to Rules for 15 November 2003, Part 2
Since this new effect is "You *must* destroy a personality", can you now choose ANY personality in your army to suck it up?
No. I see it like this:
1. You must choose one of these two legal effects: A. Target and destroy your highest force Personality, or B. Target two units and send them home. 2. If you cannot fulfil either option listed in (1), you must destroy one of your own Personalities that you can legally target.
The only way you couldn't fulfill (A) or (B) is if you have two units and can't target the highest force one. (If you can't target any of your units, your opponent couldn't play Overwhelmed, since no legal targets exist.)
That said, the last sentence on Overwhelmed is not crystal clear and Jeff will have to clarify it in any case. It could be refering to the "highest force Personality," but then it doesn't answer the question at hand: "What if I can't target that Personality?"
isn't that new effect targeted?
Yes. Which is why I initially said, you must destroy the one you can target.
A dumb question
Seppun Jin ignores entering play restrictions. Does this include uniqueness?
Yes.
A few questions about older cards.
[Re: One with the Elements]
Is it just me, or does that reverse which kihos could be negated?
The Archive answers your question here: http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/#Kiho_cards
I can see how you might have missed it, being listed under the title of the card and everything. :)
With the kiho Proud Heritage, if it targets an Ancestral Sword, does either the honor gain or loss re-occur?
No. The item never leaves play.
Does the above quote ["Gain 4 honour. Any other Phoenix Clan Players lose 6 honour when this item is brought into play."] indicate that you only cause the honour loss if you are playing the right clan, but the honour gain is always?
Both effects always occur. The word "other" is there because the question would arise, "How come I gain 4 and lose 6 if I'm playing my own clan's sword?"
Ruling question: Ring of Earth and Stand or Die
One player uses the Ring of Earth on one of his units to prevent him from being sent home, and attacks. The other player defends, and plays Stand or Die.
Seeing as how there's *no such card* as "Stand or Die," I'm going to take a really wild stab in the dark and guess that you're really talking about Stand or Run.
Can the attacking player choose to refuse the challenge and negate the send-home with the ring[?]
Yes. The controller of the challenged Personality's decision is not "stay or go," it's "accept or refuse." Nothing is preventing acceptance or refusal of the challenge.
Rules Question [Jeff, Zen, Vaughn]
If Latomu gets hit with Slaughter the Scout, will he still have time to perform his ranged attack?
No.
Why or why not?
Because he's dead.
I try to attach Traveling Ronin to one of my guys in battle, and Kyuden Ikoma cancels it.
You got hosed, since Kyduen Ikoma *can't cancel Open actions.*
This makes the next question totally moot.
Ambush and Northern Provinces of the Moto: Even though I can't move someone in, could I use the Northern Provinces ability to move someone out of an ambush, kinda like how Kwanchai used to in Gold?
No. Kwanchai has two movement effects. Northern Provinces has one. Kwanchai and the Unicorn stronghold are not worded the same, and not surprisingly, they don't work the same.
