Rules for 16 October 2003, Part 2
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Rule for 16 October 2003
If you negate the move of your unit does the rest of the effects of the action take place. Ex bowing from Block supply lines.
You have to read each action on a case by case basis, but the gist of the question appears to be, "Do you bow?" No (Rules Archive, General Rules, Battle, Action Segment).
But in the case of a refugee, you get to put a follower on your guy, right?
Erm. Yes. I'm hesitating, because that effect in Refugees is currently worded as "Then," which could imply that you can only do that effect from home. For now, though, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the Personality being sent home.
Rules for 14 October 2003 [DIAMOND]
If I were going to play a card with a gold cost that targetted, say Tsuruchi Technique if I'm not a Mantis player, don't I have to pay the 1 gold before, and not AFTER I choose the target?
No (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 46). Announce action, pick targets, pay costs, resolve effects.
Prayers & Blessings
can [Prayers & Blessings] be returned to hand after discarding that turn for any reason (i.e., focusing, discarding for Tansho/Kuon's action, etc.)?
No; it must be cast. It's part of an action, not a trait.
Traveling Ronin as Open action
Can I legally attach [Travelling Ronin] on my turn as an Open action if I declare it so (due to card text), and thus be able to return it to my hand at the end of my turn?
Yes.
Hida Sozen&Sorrow's Path
(Hida sozen + Celestial Sword + Follower) in a province with Sorrow path attached and defended with a 5 force total unit. Sorrow path resolves, Sozen Dies (by sorrows path)? Why?
Because that's what the cards say. Sorrow's Path either:
A) Destroys a unit. Because Sozen's trait protects him, not the unit (card text), so he dies.
B) 3 cards in the army. Because there are only three cards in the army, destroying the attached cards makes Sozen's force less than the enemy unit, so his trait no longer protects him, so he dies.
Path of Wisdom/Prayers and Blessings
Prayers and Blessings [...] seems to [imply] that you can have more than 8 cards in your hand, if you've played Prayers and Blessings earlier in the turn.
Yes (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 59).
