Greetings,

Rules for 12 October 2003

Sorrow's Path doesn't occur in the Resolution Segment it occurs before it starts or at the same time as the Battle Action Segment ends. While Delayed Terrains resolve immediately before the Battle Action Segment ends placing them in the Battle Action segment. So the order of Encircled then Sorrows Path is correct but....exact card text suggests different timing to your response Zen[.]

Not really. See Rules Archive, Timing.

Kachiko's Promises

What exactly constitutes "playing a card" for the purposes of Kachiko's Promises?

Bringing an out-of-play card into play.

Rules questions.

one of the Rules Junta stated that Purify could not straighten the Temple of the Ninth Kami, or the Temples of the Phoenix, since they are not holdings.

Keywords don't apply to strongholds (Gold Edition rulebook, page 33).

If the player is casting Aid of the Grand Master, does [Seek the Path] force them [or you, if you are casting it], to just draw a card?

No; the rest of Aid of the Grand Master resolves. Draw from top, reshuffle, place on top or bottom.

Resolved cards

Is discarding a card for Tactician bonus or focusing considered resolving a card?

No; it was not used for printed effect.

If this is not the case, what about focusing a Kharmic Strike?

Yes; it was used for printed effect.

As such, cards are "resolved" when focused but not for tactician or any other use such as Trade Hub and Merchant Caravan?

Cards focused are not resolved, unless they have text that particularly relates to focusing.
