Rules for 29 September 2003

Zen Faulkes, sent 30 September 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Jeff Alexander may beat me to this, but he indicated to me in private email that a player who cannot lose honor (i.e., one playing Shadowlands) may pick the "lose honor" option for Writ of Peace. This is a REVERSAL.

The Rules Junta is going to work at clearing up what is allowed when a card forces a player to make a decision.

Questions about defending

If a person is not attacking me this turn may I still defend my province and play battle actions?

No.

However, has there /ever/ been any purpose in doing it before?

Sure. If you could, you could Counterattack without yourself being attacked.

Iaijutsu Lesson Questions

Personality X has the Corrupt Jade Sliver attached.. Uses it 3x to get +6 to Chi. X issues an Iaijutsu Lesson to someone. Does he still have +6 Chi?

Yes. See Rules Archive, Actions, Iaijutsu Lesson.

Personality X has the Porcelain Mask XP attached. Issues a lesson. Does he receive the +1/+1 Bonus since he has the Printed Shadowlands Trait?

No bonus at all.

Personality X still has the Mask Attached... Personality Y issues an Iaijutsu Lesson. Personality Y has the Shadowlands Trait. Does he receive the +1/+1 bonus?

No bonus. Iaijutsu Lesson doesn't say, "The Personalities *own* items give no bonuses;" it says they give no bonuses, period, to anyone, anywhere, while the duel is going on.

Blade of Truths.. Has no effect right?

None.

Unexpected Strike

My opponent has already revealed/resolved For the Empire--I've sent him home 2x on previous turns with the Favor (which had raised the honor win requirement-hwr-to 46). Now, my Unexpected Strike reveals/resolves...future uses of the Favor won't increase the hwr any further, but Is the hwr still 46? Or does it 'reset' to 40?

Back to 40.

Daigotsu and Celestial Swords

The other player used the favor, Daigotsu was his wind, to reduce the Celestial Sword's Force to 0... My doubt is, can he really do that[?]

Yes. Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 74.

will it have any impact on the Sword's Force bonus since it's printed 0???

Daigotsu does not reduce *printed* force to 0; it reduces *current* force, including all previously applied bonuses, to 0. See also Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 32. In short, this works.
