Rules for 12 September 2003, Part 2
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
diamond legal?
Are the only cards from the Gold Story arc that are going to be legal in Diamond the ones that are in the spolier list?
No.
[I]s there a list anywhere of what Gold cards are going to be Diamond legal?
See my checklists at Steel and Iron: http://l5r.shorturl.com
ashura + yu
If your army is losing, and you plan to save them with trenches or something, can an Ashura you destroy with Yu still destroy one of your losing cards before the trenches save them?
See Rules Archive, General Rules, Yu: Yes.
Further game balances before diamond
At the diamond preview at GC2003 Dan Tibbles mentioned "annoying"[...]
Dave Williams, actually.
Question on movement and Moto Latumo
My opponent plays Tireless assualt on Moto Latumo and moves him into the province I'm defending[.] Can I play Slaughter The Scout to kill Latumo, or does Latumo shoot down Rekussu before Rekussu can bow to slaughter?
Your opponent took an action. You have the first chance to play a Reaction (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 48) which resolves completely before your opponent can play a Reaction.
The Unicorn is dead, for a ducat, dead!
Kolat Recruiter rules question
One ruling states that you must observe all restrictions including Honor Requirements. A later ruling states the Honor Requirements only matter during the Dynasty Phase. Does the later ruling override the earlier one?
As Jeff said, no. The specific overrides the general.
Rules for 12 September 2003
does anyone recall if there was much (any?) interest in Jade format events once Gold was released?
I do recall, and no, there wasn't.
Moto Zhijuan
By having costs uniform through out the game it is more balanced[.]
Also more boring. If every card followed a mathematical formula to guarantee equivalence, there would be less strategy because you would be more likely to know that performing action X to Personality Y would always be worth it in case P but not Q.
Kuni Tansho?
But that means both Lion and the ratlings were special cases, whereas the majority of the replies on this subject so far have said they'd rather have had Koten. I'm still lost as to why it got cut.
Jeff's given his reasons, but I'll add one more piece of speculation. I'd wager that to some degree, the design team saw Razor's Edge Dojo a missed opportunity, whereas Koten was much closer to what they wanted it to be.
The Egg of P'an Ku
I can use the Egg of P'an Ku to make a copy of a personality that won't join my faction[.] If my opponent takes temporary control of said personality, what happens when they have to return him/her?
They can't (precedent: Otomo Ambassadors; see Rules Archive).
Am I considered to "own" the copied personality?
No. You own the Egg of P'an Ku.
Game Trade magazine
has anyone here ever seen this GameTrade magazine ?
Yes.
Game Trade magazine
Because if it becomes gold legal the day Diamond is Legal, what's the point of making it Gold legal?
Lead time. This is a factor that is *everywhere* in publishing. You have to commission, design, write, proofread, send to printer, check colour, print, and distribute things long before the reader ever touches it.
I strongly doubt AEG knew when promo would be released when they designed the card face.
Loyalty Renewed question
If I use Loyalty Renewed and I killed the guy I stole, can I attack again?
Yes (card text, Gold Edition rules, pg. 25).
