Rules for 2 September 2003
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Two questions
Assuming that you can't search your deck for a Gifts and Favors while Uona Sensei is in play, can you search only the face-down cards in your provinces for said Gifts and Favors?
Yes.
Rules for 1 September 2003
He moves Latomu to province A tries to do a range on my peep. I react to his moving with "slaughter the scout" What happens ?
Dead Unicorn (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 48).
But by extension of the Rekai ruling..his ranged attack resolves right?
No. Rekai uses *one* action with two effects. In the case of Moto Latomu, *two* actions are involved. One action is used to move in. At this point, the other player gets first chance at a Reaction, which resolves completely before the next Reaction can be started. There is no opportunity for Latomu's second action being used to shoot.
Toshimoko no Shiryo
Can I switch another personality to duel with Kyuden Doji if either of the original participants has 'Toshimoko no Shiryo'?
No.
I believe that it was ruled in the past that an individual with Toshimoko no Shiryo could be switched into a duel using Kyuden Doji because of the fact that Toshimoko is not involved in the duel until after the switch occurs. Is my memory faulty or did Zen make a mistake?
Neither. :) The questions are different. In one case, a Personality with Toshimoko no Shiryo is switched in (allowed); in the other, a Personality with Toshimoko no Shiryo is switched out (not allowed).
New favor questions
[Much snipping to make this a generic question rather than a Diamond-specific one]
I send a unit home, bowed, and [if it is canceled], does the unit stay in the battle, bowed?
No. It stays in the battle, in whatever orientation it was originally.
Or does negating the movement negate the entire action?
No. Negating the movement would only negate the movement. If the unit was "sent home bowed," the bowing would be negated too. Note, however, this is an *exception* to rules about effects that is not in the rulebook or rule sheet yet. I hope it will be in the Diamond rulebook. For now, it's in the Rules Archive, under General Rules, Battle, Action Segment, here: http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings/#Battle)
You're using "cancel" and "negate" interchangeably; they do *not* mean the same thing (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 45).
rules Q
If I have a Double Chi personality with a single weapon attached, can I choose to destroy the weapon, in place of loosing Double Chi?
No (card text).
Kakita Dojo, Shoshuro Technique... Can these cards be used to provide bonuses for duels that are not Chi based?
No.
