Rules for 22 August 2003

Zen Faulkes, sent 22 August 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Few quick question from an Old Version Player

Where can I find what old cards can be used for new rules?

If you mean what cards have the Diamond kanji, there are checklists here: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/sarah-and-zen/l5r/checklists/index.html

There's a column that indicates whether the card has the Jade, Gold, or Diamond kanji.

Are the Moto Chargers considered cavalry?

No (card text).

When attacking a province and the players chooses not to defend, can I play battle or open actions?

Yes (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 53).

New guy with rules question

Sorry if this has been asked, but I've checked the archives and can't find it yet.

That's because no rulings concerning Diamond Edition are going into the Archive until the set actually releases.

On the new Diamond Winds, do you have to control the favor to use the second action/reaction that doesn't require discarding it?

Left for Jeff Alexander to answer.

Some questions for JEFF

Can I use Tsuruchi tech with Castle of the Wasp on a province as a battle action of range 3 and not as a reaction to a range from any card of my unit?

No (stronghold text).

After I use Tsuruchi Tasuku's range as a first battle action, thus without bowing him, can I bow him the second time for another range attack?

No ("Once per battle..." card text).

If I don't have the favor, can I still use Tsudao's Chambers, assuming she is my wind?

Yes (card text).

Can I Sup Tacs my own defending units to move it to another province after the attacker Sup Tacs his own units?

Yes (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 53).

Cancelling, negation, etc.

Awhile back, I think I remember Jeff saying something like: "If you react and cancel the cost of an action, the action is cancelled because the cost no longer counts as having been paid." Am I remembering this correctly? What about negation?

No need to guess. It's in the Archive under General Rules, Costs: "If a cost for an action cannot or will not be paid, the action is canceled."

let's say you have an action (such as casting "I Give You My Name") that requires the destruction of a personality as a cost. If you have a reaction like "Glick" or "Feign Death" that simply reacts to the destruction by bringing the personality back, can you do that and still bring the Oni into play via the spell?

Glick does not react to the destruction of another card; the destruction of another goblin is a cost. You cannot pay two costs at once.

Feign Death, as currently worded, works, because the Personality is destroyed, thus satisfying the original cost.

Kaiu Hisayuki- soul of Silence

I have a question on the force bonus for Kaiu Hisayuki.

Left for Jeff.
