Rules for 17 August 2003

Zen Faulkes, sent 17 August 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Gaki Question

I duel Gaki. I force him to focus something other than a zero. Does he die before resolution[?]

Yes (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 61).

On: Gaki
Rules for 16 August 2003

No. Follow the ink. The action is printed on the rule sheet, not the Personality.

The cards are not trying to fool you, oh wait, the trait is on the card, hmm, no, it says what the trait does on the sheet, yeah, but it's PRINTED ON THE CARD....yeah, but the cards aren't trying to fool you.

Was there a question or request for clarification in there?

And the cards aren't *trying* to fool you. They will fool you sometimes, but it's always unintentional, and not malicious. ;)

Ruling: Maho & Shadowland

is a Maho card considered a Shadowland card?

No.

consecutive range/ COTW

If I have a Moshi Ehime with a Kuro's Fire or Fire's from Within on her can I use it in combination with CotW to:

Sorry, what does Card of the Week have to do with this? ;)

Please avoid acronyms when asking questions.

first target one of the opposing peeps with one of the consecutive range attacks, and not have to bow Moshi Ehime using the CotW [trait?]

No. A series of consecutive ranged attacks is not "a single or combined Ranged Attack" (stronghold text).

Use one of the other consecutive range attacks and target the province with the other CotW [trait]?

Yes.

Castle of the Wasp

If I use cascading fire on a shugenja for 2 range 3 attacks, am I able to use the [Castle] of the Wasp [trait] on the first of the consecutive attacks to prevent her bowing.

See previous question. No.

Stop the requests!

I preferred the boxes of Season of... to the current binders. I find binders to be bulky and awkward to use practically and would prefer to see more useful (to me) materials provided in the CR kits.

I find both have their uses. I keep my reference sets in binders, decks in boxes.

Sound Strategy

Isnt [Sound Strategy] worded badly?

I don't think so.

Shouldnt it be the Last card you played during this battle?

That would be funtionally identical to the current wording, so I don't see that there's much to gain there.

What if I pick up my discard to look through it and change the order of the cards.

Then you've cheated. And since you've played the card, it's not like it won't be public knowledge what will be on the top of your discard pile.

Contingency plan printing

Could somebody tell me how contingency plan has come to be printed with 2 rarities.

The event is fixed in the Mantis starters. Fixed starter deck cards are on a separate sheet from the booster cards, which means that a typo on one (like a rarity symbol) won't be on the other.
