Jeff Alexander, sent 6 June 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

(no subject)

It's happened! We are officially out of 1,000 Years of Darkness.

now I can't corrupt (insert any faction)! Or does this mean I can't do the uber shadowlands dueling thing.

1,000 Years of Darkness had the non-Gold-legal Imperial Palace of Fu Leng stronghold with the 15 starting honor.

Card prices of rares....

5) I don't like the 1/3 distribution between commons, uncommons and rares (i.e. 50 of each in a 150 card set). Glutting the commons make each individual common harder to get and thus more desirable, without ruining the value of other cards. I think a perfect distribution would be 250 card sets with 150 commons, 50 uncommons and 50 rares in 11 card booster packs with 1 rare, 3 uncommons and 7 commons.

That would mean with ideal distribution, 50 booster packs gives you- 50 rares- 1 set of each rare 150 uncommons- 3 sets of each uncommon 350 commons- 2.3 sets of each common

You do realize this makes commons rarer than uncommons, yes?

Card prices of rares....

I am not bitching because I want to build a highly competetive deck for $1; I dislike the 'unfair' treatment different archetypes are recieving. I also dislike the strict need to enforce the ammount of R, c, u per set; as demonstrated by the non unique Dragon guy.

And while on the subject of him, I am curious, was there no backup for his slot (as Jeff told us there were such cards, like Travelling Ronin); so why no backup unique Dragon.

You speak as though Kyuzo were printed because we didn't have a "correct" card to put in his place. That isn't the case. Short and simple, Kyuzo is not Unique because that's how he was playtested. Playtesters don't have rarity information when they bang a set into shape, partly because it isn't assigned until later, and partly because I wouldn't give it to them even if it was all predetermined. Power and rarity do not correlate, so the extra information would only distract them from their real job.

What "after" means...

Since english is not what I know the most I use to have such doubts.... This one was when I was playing Scouting Maneuvers.

The text says that I have to target a personality "after" assigning him/her to a province.... Since it says "after" can I wait until my opponent decides to block or not to block?

No. You must play a Reaction as soon as the opportunity exists. [GE p. 48] So a Reaction that gets used "after" something happens must be used immediately after. You cannot wait for an arbitrary point later in the turn.
