Question for Jeff

The Maw is in a battle and it is attacking. BSL is played on it and is reacted to with Test of courage. Can the Maw still use his ability to send someone home from the battle?

Yes.

Isn't the Maw's ablity considered to be a use of tactician?

Yes.

Since gold ed doesn't Tactican target the personality in order for it to be used?

The default Battle action use of discarding a card for a Force bonus does, but that is because of how that one action is written in the rulebook. It is not a general rule.

Can I use tactician on a personality I've already targeted with test of courage?

Not the standard discard, no. Others may or may not, depending on wording.

ambush

1) If my opponent Targets one of his Samurai and any on of my personalities with Ambush, can I play "Code of Bushido" to cancel the action?

Yes.

2) In a similar vein, can a samurai commit seppukku to lower the 5 point loss to 1?

Yes. By the rulebook, the seppuku must be done either when the samurai is first targeted or when Ambush begins to resolve. You cannot wait for the loss to occur (i.e., after the battle, in the case of Ambush).

I guess the underlying issue is: When I target a personality of mine with an action that has some sort of effect on another player's personality or cards, is the personality considered to be performing the action, or am I considered to be performing it?

Largely irrelevant, since seppuku can respond to targeting OR performing.

Overwhelmed

Does Overwhelmed target your peep?

Card text:

Battle: Destroy your Personality in this battle with the highest Force. (In the case of a tie, choose one). The opposing player chooses either to destroy one Personality with the highest Force in his or her army or send two units in his or her army home without bowing.

To me it looks like you're only targeting the peep if there is a tie.

It does not fall into targeting category 1, 2, or 3, so it falls into #4: "everything else targets". So since it affects your Personality, it targets him.

The reason for the question: Can you use Overwhelmed with a bowed peep.

No.

Question (for Jeff) - Ring of Air re-direction...

Excuse my ignorance, but I no don't keep old e-mails and I recall the list having hammered this topic, but I ask again so that I can put it in my memory banks for good.

Ring of Air redirects the targeting. I believe Jeff also said that targeting is decided before the action, so that monks and shugenja can target themselves with their own spell effects which require them to bow.

So, if all that is true, I can redirect "The Touch of Death" back to the caster...

No. He could not have cast it on himself in the first place.

No.

2. what is the interaction with shiba gyukudo and mgc? specifically, if i bring gyu back from the dead does he get a new shugenja to play with? does he keep the old bonus? if yes to both, do they stack?

Yes, yes, yes. Effects do not end because a card leaves play.

Togashi's SHrine?

can you use togashi's shrine to go threw your deck if you know you dont have any rings in it?

Yes.

Arriving at the Imperial Gates Tadenori receives a 3 force bonus in battle, Arriving at the Imperial Gates resolves. What will his force be? 3 (only his personal honor) or 6 (personal honor + 3 force bonus)?

6. His *printed* Force changes. Changing a stat's base or printed value does not reset the total.

Mirumoto Tsuge challenges a bowed Tadenori to a Iaijutsu Challenge, Balance in Nothingness is played. Does Tsuges player still draw a card?

No. Balance in Nothingness cancels an action. [card text] The challenge never happens.

Is it possible to cancel Accept with Honor with Keen Eye?

Yes. Accept With Honor is played "after...accept[ing] a challenge". Keen Eye "negates the effects of a Reaction taken...during a challenge or duel".

Is Nikushimi able to attack Fields of the Dead, i.e. does it get the 2F bonus before or after assignment?

After. Nikushimi may assign there.
