A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Ruling question...
I'm assuming this is just an extension of the Superior Strategist/Deadly Ground ruling, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to check in on this... Can you use a Superior Strategist on a bowed personality in order to get a card that would immediately straighten them?
No, for much the same reason.
Daigotsu...
So... out of sheer mentally unstable curiosity. If someone were to use Daigotsu as their wind, but have no actual Shadowlands cards in their deck, would that count for Tainted/Corrupted?
It depends on the venue. I believe Rich is counting Daigotsu decks as automatically corrupt.
but Daigotsu doesn't say "Shadowlands" or anything anywhere on him...
1) I don't think someone should be able to destroy a Wind with a non-Unique spell castable by any shugenja. 2) It's cramped for space already.
Kisada's Shrine/Hiruma Citadel Question
Say that I have a defending personality with Yu. I use the Citadel of the Hiruma's ability to double that personality's force.
I lose the battle and my defending personality is killed during Battle Resolution.
I have Kisada's Shrine in play. I bow it to return my dying personality to my fief, bowed. Does my personality still die at the end of the turn, as per the Citadel of the Hiruma's effects, or does the first death negate any further effects?
At the end of the battle, not the end of the turn, but, yes.
I lose all my weapons and followers, so I would assume that other non-permanent effects cease, too.
There is no need to assume. It's in the rulebook. GE p. 39: "Effects on a card do not end prematurely if the card is destroyed, discarded, or even sent back into its owner's hand or deck. They last as long as they would have, had the card remained in play."
Unspoken Threats (RULE QUESTION)
If I target another's player personality with Unspoken Threats the controller lose 2 honor each time he/she bows or attack with this personality, it's clear. My question is:
Does the personality causes the lose or is the Unspoken Threats?
The card does not say where the loss comes from, so it comes from the card describing the loss: Unspoken Threats.
More Questions for everyone to want ask me.... An Empty Victory
Let's see, An Empty Victory reads: "Until your events phase two turns from now, if a player has one of the two highest family honor total (or is tied for the highest) when his or her attack phase begins, he or she must assign at least one unit to attack another such player"
So, what about if one of these players have only one unit and decides lobby for the favor.
Is he allowed to do it?
Yes.
AEV don't say the player MUST declare an attack, only he has to assign one unit in his attack phase. So, AEV wouldn't force players to attack, may be I'm not understanding the card and It really force players to declare an attack against other player even don't have any unit to attack. Isn't it?
An Empty Victory forces a player to declare an attack, no matter what, because otherwise there is no Attack Phase. It does not force a player to make sure he has at least one unit he can assign when he does declare that attack.
Crazy Pointless Question
Just a thought, is a Shadowlands Deck automatically considered corrupt for kotei purposes?
Rich and Ray have the final word. I'll ask them.
Questions about Celestial Alignment, Eternall Halls...
Celestial Alignment Until your next turn, Shugenja Personalities need not bow to create Spell effects or use innate abilities. Until your next turn, no Shugenja may create a given a Spell effect more than once or use a given innate ability more than once.
Eternal Halls of the Shiba Reaction: Once per turn, after one of your cards successfully casts a Kiho and you discard the Kiho, add the Kiho to your hand. Then discard a card from your hand. You may take this action once per game for each copy of each Kiho
Dark Allies Rulebook, page 30. A Kiho is actually an Action card, although it produces a Spell effect.
Question: I have a Shugenja in play. As an Open action, my Shugenja casts "Facing you Devils" without bowing, thanks to the Celestial Alignment. I use the Stronghold ability to take the Kiho back to my hand once it has been resolved. Can the same Shugenja cast the same "Facing your Devils" again ?
No.
jade Matsu Daoquan - picture/traits
I have a quetion about Matsu Daoquan. I have a jade card of him. His trait's are: "Lion Clan Samurai*Shadowlands (...)", but his picture shows a guy... well SkullFace ;-) Is he a undead - nonhuman? Or is he normal human (due to his traits)?
He does not have any traits that would make him Nonhuman, so he is Human.
Necromancer exp question
Necromancer exp:
Unaligned Shugenja. Shadowlands. Experienced. Unique. Lose 5 Honor. Limited: Bow to attach a dead follower from any player's discard pile. The follower gains the trait Shadowlands, has its honor requirement reduced to 0 and has the ability Battle: Fear 3. All of these changes are permanent. Lose 2 honor.
Do you have to attach the follower to himself? or can he be used to attach a follower to any personality a) you control? b) In play?
To himself.
Will
The Card Will of Fire I can down the ring of fire or only show to other players that I have the ring!
"...and reveal the Ring of Fire from your hand if you don't have it in play." You can only cast the Kiho if you have the Ring in play or in your hand, and if it's in your hand you must show it to everyone as proof. "Reveal" means "reveal", not "play".
Another question, My Scorpion Deck is a defense machine and I always win the game by honor! Something is wrong, or not. Scorpion could be honorable?
Yes, they can.
Random ruling questions...
1) I was in the process of overlaying Hida Kuon exp2 over Hida Kuon non-exp. Obviously, the price difference is 8. Can two Hiruma Dojos be utilized in order to reduce Hida Kuon exp2's cost by 8, and overlay him without gold cost at that point?
Yes.
2) Can the Oracle of Thunder and the Dark Oracle of the Void be in play at the same time, or do they count as the same exact experienced version of the same card? I figure this one was pretty obvious...
They do not have the same title, so they do not conflict with one another.
3) Was the recent ruling on Hoshi Wayan exp2 (The increase to bonuses, even permanent ones, last until the end of the turn.) a REVERSAL?
No. For the longest time people were accidentally applying a ruling for Hoshi Wayan non-Exp. in the archive to Exp2...that's probably where your confusion lies. This has been the ruling for awhile.
I specifically remember a ruling entry that force bonuses increased by Wayan's ability lasted for the same duration as the bonus themselves.
Ah. That's definitely it, then.
Also, could you please explain this ruling, because I'm confused as to how the force bonus doesn't stay increased if the bonus is permanent...
Because it only stays increased for the rest of the turn. It's not complicated, really.
Detroit Kotei - Region 8 - 10 cent report
Not to mention that 9 of the 17 Feenix in the tourny made top 16. It was also interesting to not that there were exactly 0 people playing in the top 16 with starting honor less than 5. That saying much about the importance of going first in gold?
Not without knowing how often they went first against their opponents prior to the top 16 bracket.
Two More Questions
1) I have a Blacksmith in play with no Iron Mines. My opponent has no Iron Mines, but has 1 Corrupt Iron Mine. How much gold will my Blacksmith produce? 1 or 2?
1: 2 base, minus 1 from the one corrupt mine.
Also, how much will it produce for a weapon? 3 or 4?
4. Corrupt Iron Mines only reduce the first gold production because they make the Blacksmiths produce one less gold "instead of" one more. There is no mine-based increase on the second production.
2) I'm using the Yasuki Palaces stronghold (5 gold production) and have a Hida Reiha (gold cost 7) in play. My opponent's Imperial Census goes off. Does Reiha bow?
Yes.
New player
I am a new player (well, I use to play well before GE, but just got back into it) and am learning the game again. I just wanted to introduce myself and I know I will have some questions for the group.
Welcome to l5r-ccg. We're glad to have you aboard!
