post for 24 April 2003
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Thanks, Jeff, and Argh! (was RE: [L5R-CCG] post for 23 April 2003)
Second though, can someone please explain WHY the choice was made to NOT create regular versions of those two cards?
It's easier on our printer, requires less warehouse space (no one ends up with two different half-empty boxes), and most fans like foils.
Pulse of the black river
i have a doubt on this card
"Pulse of the black river
For the rest of the game, each player gains 2 Honor for each Shadowlands card that player destroys during a battle or duel through action or resolution, in addition to other results. That player then selects one Personality surviving that battle or duel to permanently gain the Shadowlands trait, if possible."
if i use iaijutsu art or iaijutsu lesson or any this type of duel and win the duel , can i target the opposing surviving personality to give the shadowland trait?
No. A Personality needs to die during the duel to trigger the extra gain and the tainting.
or in a battle if i sent a unit from opponent army to home , and i win the battle , can i target that personality after the battle end?
No. The tainting must be done immediately after the death happens, and can only be done to a Personality in the battle.
Rules for 22 April 2003
If someone plays Torrential Rain at Province four, the battle may have ended but it has not resolved. So can I play Accessible Terrain at Province 4 and move units back into it then resolve it?
No. The battle has ended.
So, does this mean a battle that has ended has resolved?
There was no Resolution Segment, but it is a resolved battle, yes.
Legality of Make a Wish
Just curious when Make a Wish becomes legal. Is it at the same time as H&E, or is it even considered a promo?
It is a promo. It went on sale before H&E's release date of April 21, so it will be legal when H&E becomes legal on May 21.
I have a game question...
I'm thinking of making a tsuno deck. My question is this: I have a Tsuno Kira, I have The White Guard, I am using The Shadowlands Horde as my stronghold. Since Kira's ability lowers the honor cost and gives shadowlands to the White Guard, can I use my stronghold to lower the gold cost of the White Guard?
Yes.
Rules Question
Hey I just joined the list today and I have a general question.I searched the archive(briefly)and the new rules sheet from H&E but couldn't find anything that put my mind at ease. It is my understanding that a cavalry personality with a Shinjo Horsebow can bow to perform one ranged attack and then bow the Shinjo Horsebow to perform a second ranged attack. My question is this according the the H&E rulesheet any action performed by an item, spell, or ancestor is performed by the personality, then how can the previously mentioned cavalry personality's Shinjo Horsebow bow for a second ranged attack? The personality is bowed and should not be able to perform actions.
The rule is that actions on bowed cards cannot be used. There is no rule that bowed Personalities cannot perform actions.
If this is possible then why can't you use the Steel Fan on a bowed personality?
You can.
Toku's Question on Corruption...
So last night I was playing against Toku.
I bowed a corrupt holding to attach an ashigaru spearmen to a personality, at which point Toku played Corruption's Price and killed off the personality I was trying to attach to.
Then we were stuck. I know that if a cost gets cancelled then the card goes back to the hand...but... all costs had been paid, and targeting had already been done. So what happens to the ashigaru spearmen? Do they go back to the hand or get discarded?
Discarded.
Revering the Past question
what do i do when revering pops up before i have any peeps in play? do i get the ancestor and keep it in my hand?
Any time you are told to "get a card from your deck and play it", you discard it if playing it is impossible.
Do you still lose the three honor?
No. The card says, "Each player who does not get an Ancestor this way loses 3 Honor." All you have to do to avoid the loss is get an Ancestor from your deck.
Mukami/Nobumoto + Shinjo Horsebow
If I have a Mukami/Tsuruchi Nobumoto with an attached Shinjo Horsebow, can I bow the Horsebow for a RA2, then Mukami to combine for a RA 5, then send him home as per his action?
Yes.
ruels questions!
Dear Rule Guys, I've asked this question before but I do not know if you answered because my yahoo account is screwy these days. so I ask again just to make sure.
1) Can Keen Eye stop Judgement of Toshiken?
Yes.
EXP Mask of the Maw Question [Jeff]
If the Mask of the Maw is used to copy The Maw's ability to send a person home from the battle, can the personality that gains the ability actually use it if they do not have the Tactician trait?
No.
Rules Question
Is it right that when I use Kanashimis Reaction after Stolen Records my opponent will have no fate cards left?
Yes.
Rules questions...
Regarding new H&E Unicorn personality, Shinjo Guan.
Text: Reaction: Once per battle, Guan gains +2F after you assign a Unicorn Clan Cavalry personality to an army during Infantry Maneuvers.
Part, the first: Let's say I attack with Shinjo Guan (3F) and Utaku Yisheng (4F, cavalry), during the Infantry Maneuvers segment. Let's also say that she's assigning to attack a province with Fields of the Dead on it:
Text: No player may assign any Personality with over 4 Force to battle at this Province.
Both of these assignments are currently legal. But can Guan use his reaction at this point, or will it become an illegal assignment, forcing him to stay home, or to attack another province?
Each player's assignments within each Maneuvers Segment are simultaneous. [GE p. 52] Guan's reaction is used "after" assignment. [card text] So both he and Yisheng are already at the Province when the 4F limit is exceeded. They stay there.
Part, the second: If Guan goes to the local stables and buys himself a Warhorses, can he now give himself a bonus from his own assigning during the Infantry Maneuvers segment?
Yes.
Bonus question, unrelated to Guan - Part, the third: If an Ashura (Text: Destroy a Follower or a Personality without Followers in Ashura's battle if Ashura is destroyed while in an army) is defending a province, and is destroyed during the resolution of the battle, does he destroy the Follower/Personality before or after the province is destroyed?
Force totals are only calculated once to determine the outcome. The Province is destroyed regardless if the attacking army exceeded the defending army's Force by a sufficient amount when that calculation was done.
