Rules for 10 April 2003
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Greetings,
Jeff Alexander's on vacation for a bit, so I'm doing daily rules Q&A in the meantime. He forwarded these questions for me to answer...
Question for Jeff about WotR.
if a Ratling wins a tournament, will his/her answers to the questions during WotR be weighed more heavily than other factions?
Deputy Rules Guys aren't paid enough to answer hypothetical questions. Call back after there's a win.
Question for Jeff A.
Does the Shugenja with [Star-Filled Steel] attached need to be in the current battle to be able to give the force and Chi bonuses to the [Personalities] with the weapons?
Yes. See Fall of Otosan Uchi rulesheet for the definition of "this battle."
Winds of Change question
I know that Winds of Change is coming out soon, but does anyone know the release date for it?
August 2003, which almost certainly means, "released at GenCon."
Rules question
I had two units in a battle without followers defending against a personality with a follower. I bow his follower (Yogo) then straighten using inner fire. He plays Stand Against the Waves. Can I bow the guy I straightened with inner fire?
No.
I wasn't sure because Stand is a non targeted action[...]
Yes, it is. Always. See the Rules Archive, at: http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings/
post for 8 April 2003
if I refuse an I. Challenge do my Lesser Shrines Blow up?
No.
but HIT lesser shrines would blow up right?
I'll assume you meant "his." No. Lesser Shrines only look for self-inflicted losses, not losses to other players. [Card text]
different editions
The only thing is that the cards I got from my friend are 99% Jade edition (I think, the symbol is green, was there an Emerald Edition?).
There was an Emerald Edition, but it has no identifying kanji.
With a Diamond Edition coming out later this year, how do all this editions fit or don't fit together?
Not sure what you're asking here.
besides being tournament legal is there something else I should be aware of? Like are the pre-Gold editions unbalanced compared to the Gold or vice versa?
The most notable difference pre-Gold and now is that Personalities now have significantly higher average gold cost and honor requirements.
Jeff.... FW: [ScorpionClan] Maho and Corruption
can it be added to the errata page as the current definitions of Maho are "blood magic" and "evil magic forbidden by the emperor". Since there is no emperor currently, I wonder how the 2nd definition holds.
Story definitions don't get errata from rules guys. You want Rich Wulf. Down the hall, to your left.
A Week of the Emperors
A player ask me this simple question, if I have 7 Emperors on the table can they each rules one day a week???
No.
Play Hantei 39, play Know the Evil, giving him the Ninja trait and attach a night medalion, he becomes then Hantei 41. Your opponent then plays his own Hantei the 39[.] Kolat Master him[.] Now one player has Hantei 39 and Hantei 41 on the table on his side. He bows his Hantei 41 to gives the night medalion to another personality... What happens?
This:
2 Hantei 39 on table
koku redemption YES even the old stuff is
i was just cleaning out my closet and found loads of clan war booster packs. they don't say koku on em anyplace but i thought at one time they were worth a koku a piece or something like that. any one know anything about that?
I'd bet the people on the Clan War mailing list would. Down the hall, to your right. Don't turn left, or you risk running into people trying to barge into Rich Wulf's office trying to get the story definition of "maho" changed. Or, you could try: http://clanwar.com/list/
Question
Can I use Kisada’s Fist to cancel the destruction caused by Sorrow’s Path?
"Bow Kisada's Fist before this Personality is destroyed by an *action* or *duel*..." Sorrow's Path doesn't have an action, and sure doesn't create a duel. No.
Old Tee-Shirt Redemption
I have found a few of the old tee shirt certificates and was wondering if they are good for anything other than framing?
Sure. With a little practice and a few folds, you can turn one into a lovely origami fishie.
Tainting question
Does Unspeakable Preparations count as a Tainted card for the purpose of tainting/corrupting a deck?
Unspeakable Preparations is so bad that just asking that question will make all your decks automatically tainted for the remainder of the Four Winds story arc.
Just kidding.
If you rush, you might be able to beat the people trying to redefine "maho" to Rich Wulf's office.
Moto Kumari built-in duel
Bobby attack with Paneki Exp. Province A, with Yudoka Exp Province B and Kwanchai is at Home. Freddy defend with Kumari in Province A. Province A is resolved first. Freddy Superior Tactics Kumari into Province B. Freddy reaction with Kumari:
Q: Which personalities are legal targets for Kumari's duel?
See definition of "opposing" in Gold Edition rulebook glossary. It's this one:
Yudoka, because he is the only opposing personality in the Province Kumari is in.
Plains vs. Ruins
If I have an Ruins of Otosan Uchi and my opponet has a Plains of Otosan Uchis in play. What happens if I destroy his Plains with Ruins?
You go to the Rules Archive (which, luckily, is nowhere near Rich Wulf's office and thus has no distracting crowds) and look under "Plains of Otosan Uchi". There, you will read: "If the Region is destroyed directly, no honor is lost and the Region's controller must discard one of the two Dynasty cards of his choice."
Yamaso no Oni question
So if the force gains are before the battle they are still there?
Yes.
What if the force is gained when assigning?
Still there. Battles begin after assignment (Gold Edition rules, pg. 53).
Doji Reju Exp 2 overlay?
He attempted to overlay Doji reju exp2 Hitomi Reju, over his non exp Doji Reju Paying all cost and such. The Doji Reju exp 2 is a more exp verson of "Hitomi Reju". So, is this a legal move?
Yes. Hitomi Reju has the "Experienced Doji Reju" trait. It can be confusing when a character changes names in the story, because sometimes the "Experienced" trait uses the previous name rather than consistently using the name on the non-Experienced Personality. If you can trace back to the non-Experienced Personality, different names in the "Experienced" trait don't matter for overlaying purposes.
