post for 4 April 2003

Jeff Alexander, sent 5 April 2003 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

L5r ccg shinjo Horsebow

I would just like to clarify the way in which Shinjo Horsebow works.

I have been told that provided you bow the personality for the ranged 4 attack first, the bow is still capable of producing its own ranged 2 attack.

That is correct.

Money Lender and Trading Grounds

1. Can I use the trading ground to pay 4 for the ML when it comes in? (Pretty sure yes on this one).

Yes.

2. Can I use the TG to pay 4 for the ML after the ML is already in play?

No.

Naval Invasion

This may have already been addressed, but if someone declares a Naval Invasion, do they have to be assigning all Naval Personalities to each province, or does it count if they move over as well?

It doesn't matter how the cards got there. A battle can be declared a naval invasion if every Personality and Follower in only one army has the Naval trait when that Province's battle is picked to resolve next.

question

Does Akodo Yobi have to be in the battle the terrain was played in order to use his reaction?

No.

Sneaky Question...

<< If a Region is revealed in the Events Phase that cannot attach to its Province for any reason, it simply stays in the Province. You may discard it voluntarily during your End Phase that turn, as you can with all face-up Dynasty cards in your Provinces. You are also allowed to keep it there, in hopes it may become legal to play on later turns.

With this in mind, can you legally discard a face down Dynasty card, assuming you have not yet discarded a card from that province? (From, say, a replaced Event), if so, is is discarded Face Up or Down?

Only face-up Dynasty cards can be voluntarily discarded during your Dynasty Phase. [GE p. 59] (And it is Dynasty Phase, not End Phase, when this happens. My mistake.)

post for 3 April 2003

Along the lines of the ruling below..

Say In Time of War is in play. I have 3 Poorly Placed Gardens, and 3 Sanctified Temples in play.

I bow them all to gain honor. (12 total, Capped at 5).

If, for some reason, In Time of War disappears (Lets say I use my Shrine of the Sun on it) will I gain the 7 honor from earlier, or will all that honor disappear?

Your Family Honor will then be 12. This is not a gain -- your gains already happened.

Soshi Natsuo Question

Can the battle ability on a shugenja that targets your opponent be used if the personality did not assign?

"AN opposing player" means "a player who controls one or more cards opposing this card" [Glossary] Not only does Natsuo have to be in the battle, this ability can't be used if there are no opposing units.

Week of the Rat and OP

My local shop just got Week of the Rat in yesterday. I doubt there's enough time to get a tourney sanctioned for tonight or tomorrow. If we have the tourney and it's unsanctioned, will the results be processed for storyline purposes?

All the Season of... and Booster Box tournaments are automatically sanctioned. Send in the results! They'll count.
