More Bobby and Freddy Fun...
It's Bob's turn. Fred plays Plan within Plans. Pat plays Plans within Plans. Bob uses Shiro Matsu to launch an attack on Fred. Units are assigned by all three players. Fred's first action is to bow his own Shiro Matsu to launch an attack on Pat. Can units assign from the already assigned battles? Even so, Pat uses his first action to launch a Shiro Matsu attack on Bob, destroying his last province. Do the battles at Fred's provinces get resolved?
Sorry, Leon, but as someone has correctly pointed out, Shiro Matsu's action does not satisfy the Rule of Relevance. Since I've ruled that Limited actions have to meet Presence and Relevance just like Battle and Open actions do, neither Shiro Matsu nor Ambush is legal during a battle, even with Plans Within Plans. This is a REVERSAL.
If not for that, it would be answer a).
a) er.... yes and yes. b) um... yes and no c) eh? ...no and yes d) huh?... no and no e) "Leon, it's never going to happen, you're a jerk, prepare to meet thy doom."
f) Leon, get off my mailing list.
rule question
1.
I use the spell possession to combine the MAW with toku. Is it impossible to use this new oni's send home ability because possession takes away the tactction trait?
It is impossible. The action still counts as a use of Tactician, but the Personality lacks the trait.
2. What happens when I combine 2 personalities that both have blackened claws? Does the new oni have 2 blackened claws attached now?
Yes.
3. Do temporary bonus's to the combining personality when they combine?
Yes, because it has the total Force and Chi of the two combined.
If I combine someone who's force and chi was doubled by the event Using the wish will this new personality be destoryed at the beginning of my next turn?
Yes.
4. A personality I targeted with obsidian and jade is combined with another personality. is the movement/assignment restriction still there?
Yes.

Shadowed Tower puts it into your Fate deck "instead of discarding" it, but Quiet Tombs likewise causes the card to go somewhere else instead of the discard pile. You cannot put a card into your deck instead of your discard pile if it is not going into your discard pile to begin with.
And if the cards are going into your deck, then they aren't going to the discard pile, so Quiet Tombs never kicks in...
ST puts cards into your deck instead of the discard pile, QT puts cards out of play instead of the discard pile. Why isn't this a "two simultaneous and conflicting effects, so the active player decides" situation?
Due to the long-standing precedent that traits that alter or prevent a game effect take priority over reactions that do so.
Deck Backing at Major Tournaments
Since I come from Magic, I remember that at Major tournaments it was allowed that you ask your opponent to remove all the sleeves on your cards and play your deck "bare" to prove that you had no Fake/Marked cards in your deck.
Is there a similar rule in L5R?
No. In fact, opaque sleeves are the only legal way to use a deck containing a mix of old and new card backs.

Bobby and Freddy can only be in one place. If they move or assign anywhere, they leave the Ambush battle.
Doesn't Ambush itself prevent the units involved from going anywhere?
Ambush prohibits units from entering the ambush battle, but not from leaving it.
Make a Wish questions
While you are all choking on the implications of this I have a few questions:
* The Herald states that MaW will become available via the AEG website for a $5+ donation to the Make A Wish Foundation starting March 1, 2003. When will it actually become available?
We are currently expecting to have them available on April 4th.
* Can you get multiple cards by donating multiples of $5?
Yes. There is no limit per person. If we run out, we'll print more.
* The boxed explanatory text in the Herald says "So if you have 3 of these cards in your deck, we suggest making your total Fate deck size 43 ..." Is this an error, as the card appears to be Unique?
It's an error, due partially to the Warlord version not being Unique and partially because playtest was still underway on it. You cannot legally have more than one in your deck because it is Unique.
* Regarding the play of this card, does ripping the card in half effectively render the card illegal for further play?
Yes.
* Also regarding the play of this card, will it be legal to substitute in additional Make a Wishes for destroyed ones in the course of a tournament?
No. Your deck will permanently shrink upon its use. If your deck falls below the format legal minimum, you are eliminated before the start of the next round, if there is another round.
rule questions
1. Reactions under deadly ground.
Can your use the reaction to save yoru personality on the golden obi of the sun goddess if deadly ground has been played?
No. And here, in excruciating detail, is the proof:
If not destroyed by an action during the Battle Action Segment, Terrains remain in play until the battle ends. [GE p. 58] This includes the entire Resolution Segment, if there is one.
Immediate Terrains produce effects for the entire time they are in play. [GE p. 55]
Deadly Ground is an Immediate Terrain. It prohibits all actions that do not have the unconditional effect of destroying Deadly Ground. [card text]
Personalities in the losing army are destroyed during Battle Resolution. [GE p. 56]
The Golden Obi's Reaction is used immediately before its Personality dies. [card text]
Reactions are actions. [GE pp. 47-48]
quod erat demonstrandum
Can you play pick your battles in a battle where deadly ground has been played?
No. It's also played during Resolution, just before the losing army is destroyed.
2.
Can armed and ready be canceled by fall on your knees?
No. Fall on Your Knees can only cancel "a Reaction during the Battle Action Segment." Armed and Ready is played "at the start of a Resolution Segment".
Are the new strongholds not Diamond leagl?
Are the new strongholds not Diamond leagl? and am I the first person to notice this?
It's already been pointed out, but I thought I'd add the official confirmation to it. We aren't putting the the Diamond bug on any Strongholds or on any pre-sorted reprints in Clan Decks so we don't paint ourselves into a corner design-wise. Don't take the lack of a Diamond bug as confirmation that a Stronghold will not be in Diamond Edition.
