A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Rulz Questions
1) Excluding any independent card effect that would redirect the effect, is there any way that your own Vengeful Dead (the one in your deck) could ever kill one of your personalities? The way it reads, I think "no."
You are forced to destroy a Personality, if you can, when Vengeful Dead resolves. It can be one of your own. If you're the only one with Personalities, you are forced to kill one.
2) I heard a rumor that you can have both a KYD version and a non-KYD version of the same personality in play at the same time. This sounds silly to me, since they're both Unique versions of the same card. But if it's true, it would save me the frustration of deciding whether to use Yoritomo XP or Yoritomo XP2KYD in my Open Mantis deck. :)
From the L5R FAQ at http://l5r.alderac.com/ccg/faq.html :
] Q: How do the Experienced cards in 1,000 Years of Darkness work? ] ] A: For deck construction, the KYD version is a separate level. It's ] legal, for example, to have both the Experienced and the ] ExperiencedKYD versions of a card in your deck, even if the numbers ] are the same. ] ] With regards to overlaying, the KYD doesn't matter, only the ] number. You can overlay an Experienced 2KYD Personality on top of the ] Experienced one, then lay the Experienced 3 version over that. You ] can't overlay the Experienced 2KYD over the Experienced 2, though, or ] vice versa. ] ] The Uniqueness rule during the game works just like always: you cannot ] play or overlay a card if that would cause there to be two cards in ] play that both have the Unique trait and the exact same title.
3) A friend tried a combo on me a while ago where he bowed a Diplomatic Apprentice that was attached to Doji Nagori to increase an honor loss I was taking from Suspicions, then bowed that same Nagori to increase the same loss again. I went with it, but it seems to me that Nagori's ability had already been used, the cost was just changed. I don't think it should have worked. Am I wrong?
You are not wrong. Also from the FAQ:
] Q: If I put a Diplomatic Apprentice on Shosuro Yasuko, can I bow the ] Apprentice and her together to stop two units from attacking? ] ] A: No. The rulebook says each printed instance of a Reaction can ] only be used once per trigger, and Yasuko's trigger is the ] declaration of an attack. That means each time someone announces an ] attack, each Yasuko's ability can be used once and once only. The ] Diplomatic Apprentice doesn't change that; even if you bow the ] Apprentice instead of Yasuko, it's still Yasuko's ability being ] used.
4) This question came up in a VERY close battle involving a local Ratling player. Does Wikki'thich-hie A'tck (which has the bold-faced "Ratling" trait) get +1F from Kan'ok'ticheck and/or Ratling Conjuror?
The Conjuror boosts Ratling cards, so "yes" to that one. "No" to Kan'ok'ticheck, though -- he only helps Personalities and Followers. Ancestors are no longer Followers in Gold Edition.

Can we receive further clarification, and if the Sharaku ruling is kept, can that portion of the Resolution Segment get reworded to prevent future confusion?
The ruling stands. When a Province is destroyed, in battle or at any other time, you put the unplayed cards that were in it into your discard pile. This is not discarding them "from" the Province.
Avoid Fate
If an event is about to resolve, and you have 2 copies of Avoid Fate in your hand, can you play them both (say, so you can empty your hand...)?
"Avoid Fate 0G 3FV Reaction: Play this card before an Event resolves. The Event does not resolve. When the Events Phase ends, the Event's player shuffles it into his or her deck and refills the Province."
No. GE rulebook, page 48 (emphasis added):
] You may react as many times as you like to any trigger, but remember ] that you can't take your second Reaction until everyone else has had ] a chance to take one, AND THAT SOMETIMES A REACTION CHANGES THE ] TRIGGER IN SUCH A WAY THAT FURTHER REACTIONS AREN'T LEGAL.
The first Avoid Fate is played before an Event resolves and stops it from resolving. This prevents any further Reactions to an Event resolving from being taken, as there is no longer a trigger for them.

Corollary question. I know this was asked before once upon a blue moon, but it's not in the archive...
Assuming a shugenja of sufficient Chi for the honor gain, can a player Wind's Truth the gain from Lies^3 or a Lesser Shrine if that player's family honor falls outside of the gaining conditions? I'm inclined to say no, since the source of the honor gain is unchanged.
Forwarded to the Rules Team. This one should be on file somewhere.
card question
Can Balance in nothingness cancel an Imperial Funeral if I have a bowed personality?
No. The only cards Imperial Funeral targets are the unbowed ones that are chosen by their controllers to bow.
