Rules Question
Ok, got a rules question, ony I have a shugenja in play, Test of the Jade Champion resolves, my shugenja is now the jade champ and can cast kihos once per turn without bowing. I know want to cast Playing with Madness, do I bow or not?
Yes. It's a cost. (Yes, it's not written correctly.)
What happens when a card with +*/+* tokens on it when you overlay it with an exp version of the card? ie, dragon peep with dragon tattoo. do the tokens stay on the peep and provide thier bonus?
Tokens stay attached when you overlay. [GE p. 36]
What happens to the shadowlands trait when you overlay an exp peep?
It depends. Printed traits are replaced, but no current effects (permanent or otherwise) are ended. If the trait was added by something else, the overlayed version will have it.

The rules don't say they do. Keep them in their current orientation.
You can't move ancestors between personalities. See the Gold Edition rulebook p30.
Thanks, but I did mention that...
If there's no explicit finite limit, no bowing cost, and the card is not bowed, it can be used an indefinite number of times. (Don't forget you can use each printed Reaction only once per trigger.)
Well, if it gets cancelled, it counts as not having been used, so you can use it again, right?
Right...but now you're adding conditions and stipulations to the original poster's question.
- Under solar eclipse, ongoing effects are cancelled, right ?
"Negate any current effects of Spells and innate abilities."
My understanding of the card is that I can still cast kihos under solar eclipse, but not spells. Is this correct ?
Yes.
Er... Legendary has the following text:
Solar Eclipse Negate any current effects of Spells and innate abilities. Shugenja cannot cast Spells or use innate abilities until your next turn.
And the rulings archive includes the following:
* Suppresses spell effects from Kiho. [JA, 8 October 2002]
This ruling and the above seem to be in contradiction, unless "effects of Spells" means the same as "Spell effects", in which case you need to be more careful with wording cards...
"Spell effect" and "effect of a Spell" do, in fact, mean the same thing, and I think it would be unfair to expect players to treat them differently.
Question for the Card Guru
A question came up recently in a game of mine with a friend, and when I checked the accumulated listings, I got no call one way or another. Here is the question:
Is it possible to play two consecutive Counterattacks, one being played after the first resolves fully, as the former Defender of an attack?
Yes. Check the FAQ, also available on our website:
Q: Hey. While we're talking about multiple Reactions... Can I Counterattack twice against the same attack?
A: Yes. It's hard to visualize at first, since Counterattack takes so long to do what it does, but once the whole extra Counterattack-created Attack Phase is over, you're back to where you started: an attack against you has just finished, you took the opportunity to react, and now the player to your left gets one chance to react, and so on, in turn order, until all of you decline to react in succession. Until that happens, all Reactions taken "after an Attack Phase in which another player was the Attacker and you were the Defender" are still legal -- including another Counterattack.
As it was my understanding that when a Reaction resolves, it resolves to the moment just before the Reaction was played. Thusly, the second Counterattack had been legal. However, according to my friend, one cannot play an identical Reaction after the resolution of one.
One cannot use the same INSTANCE of a Reaction more than once in response to the same trigger. However, two Reactions on two different cards -- even identical cards -- is allowed, because that's still two different instances.
So... Has there been a ruling about this before? If so, when and what was it?
Yes. It's at least a couple of years old.

Well, I'd like to know if anybody knows something about the next expansion for L5R. Aproximate date release?
Third week of April.
Jeff are you using the release date from AEG to distributors or the street date?
Street date, I hope. The wholesale release date doesn't do players much good.
The information I have from the solicitation for pre-release orders is that the street date is Easter Monday - April 21st.
Somewhere in the third week, start of the fourth week... Was I really that misleading?
Quick Question
Can you target your own personalities with Touch of Death.
No. [GE p. 46]
This is not that important as far as the person playing ToD is but is important for redirecting it with the Ring of Air.
Is this a case of it being implicitly legal as ToD requires a bowed personality to target or is this a case of the rulebook holding sway?
Touch of Death does not explicitly allow targeting your own bowed Personalities. The rulebook rule that the only implicit exception is actions that straighten cards still holds.

Since the card does not say otherwise, the trait is gained for the default duration: until the end of the turn. A Chuda Retainer would need to be used in the same turn -- after that, the Spell in the discard pile no longer has the Maho trait.
Sorry to discuss this, but doesn´t say the Playing with madness that the spell or kiho "for the rest of the game gains the Maho trait"?. This way, the kiho will be maho for all the rest of the game. Or is "Kiho cast by that shugenja for the rest of the came" wich applies?
The exact card text is, "Any Spell or Kiho cast by that Shugenja for the rest of the game gains the Maho trait." The effect that lasts all game is the fact that casting things adds the Maho trait to them, not the trait itself.
