Hida Ishi question

When Hida Ishi is targeted with a Block Supply Line, What happens? Does he goes home without bowing? Can`t be targeted? Nothing happens?

He goes home without bowing. The rest of the cards in his unit still bow.

like bend like a reed or "Strike with no though"?

No. Those two cards are not played "as a focus". They cause some value to add to your duelist following all the rules that focus cards do -- the Double Chi trait works on them, and they add to the stat used in the duel even when it's not Chi -- but they are not actually focused.

What Jeff describes here refers to Bend Like a Reed, which "counts as a Focus", but does NOT refer to Strike With No Thought, as that a) does not count as a Focus and b) only adds to Chi (which makes it ineffective in duels not based on Chi), right Jeff?

Wrong. Strike with No-Thought says it adds to Chi, but it also says it adds like a focus card, so it always adds to the proper stat.

"Another player's card effect"

I Kolat Master my opponent's Moto Kadu-Kai, and then attack. During the battle, I use Kadu-Kai to kill one of my opponent's units with his ability ("Battle: Bow and destroy Kadu-Kai to destroy an opposing Personality with equal or lower Force").

In my opponent's next Events Phase, he resolves Vengeful Dead. Does the Personality who I destroyed with my opponent's Kadu-kai trigger VD?

Yes.

In other words, do a player's card effects come from cards that they CONTROL, or cards that they OWN?

Control.

Rules Question

Okay, here's the deal:

We're in a battle, and I play the terrain "Awakening Shakoki Dogu", which reads:

"All units at this battle return to their fiefs, bowed. All remaining units lose -2 Chi until the end of turn and are dishonored."

My question: What remaining units?

Check the errata at http://l5r.alderac.com/rulings/ . The first sentence of this card should read, "All units at this battle MAY return to their fiefs, bowed." [emphasis added]

Vengeful Dead / Akodo Kaneka

Maybe I'm just dense, but I don't think that answered my question. Though it does bring up a point I wish to argue in a moment.

My orginal question (what I meant to ask at any rate): If Vengeful Dead is turned up when used with Akodo Kaneka, will it *have* to go to the discard pile, or can you choose to reshuffle it into your Dynasty deck?

It must go into your discard pile. The option to reshuffle it is one of its effects. If it does not resolve, you don't get that choice.

Now, the point I want to argue. If Kaneka turns VD up, and you *don't* have a choice, that it *has* to go to the discard pile, I don't think it matters, but:

By Cardinal Rule #1: Shouldn't VD resolve if revealed outside the Events phase because of "This event resolves *each time it is revealed*, for all players."

No. That sentence does not mean that Vengeful Dead resolves every time it appears, no matter where or when. It means that Vengeful Dead does not resolve only once per game.
