Rules for 21-25 December 2002

Zen Faulkes, sent 26 December 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Greetings,

Sorry these answers have been slow to arrive. For some reason, the digest, like the regular mail, seems to get delivered slowly around Chistmastime! :)

Most Popular Edition

What is the most popular L5R? is it Gold? is it Jade?

Using sales as a measure, Gold Edition.

Forgery (card #?)

If somebody has a copy of the FOU rare "Forgery", please tell me: what's the printed # on it?

83. Incidentally, information about card numbers is in my checklists: http://l5r.shorturl.com (though I admit I didn't catch the "two 83s").

Mon Back Strongholds

Exactly what sets had Mon back promos of the Strongholds?

You can also find this information in my checklists (URL above). Look under "Promos" for each story arc. I find it interesting to see the number of new promos compared to the number of mon-backed strongholds for each story arc.

Question: Engage the enemy

Engage the enemy: Are the cards bow all at the same time or are they bow one and then another? i.e. I bow and destroy my tactician to bow the celestial sword attached to a personality and then I bow the personality.

You must pick all targets before playing the action, and they must all be legal. The tactic you suggest won't work.

"10,000 as 1" question

Are "Samurai Followers" followers of a Samurai personality, or are they followers with the word "samurai" in their title?

The latter, by straight application of the Keyword rule.

Thoughts on Strongholds

I have always been of the opinion that 3 Gold SHs should have more powerful abilities than 4 golds. [snip] Where once upon a time the disadvantage was made up in more cost effect peeps, this is no longer the case with a more standardized pricing for them.

I disagree. The design team is well aware of how much gold each stronghold makes (as well as how much honor it has), and Personalities are priced according to that stronghold. You can't easily change the gold production in a new stronghold, without making everything overpriced or cheap. New strongholds are often hampered by the first stronghold printed for that clan.

I suspect that the wider array of gold options creates the illusion of more standard costs. When more clans use "2 for 2" holdings (i.e., Gifts and Favors), differences in gold production are minimized.

Question about Yasuki Yukinaga's reaction

When I bow a small farm start paying for a follower and it triggers and I chose to use Yasuki Yukinaga's reaction, am I producing 6 gold or 7 gold for a follower?

Bowing the holding is a cost of using Yukinaga's action; nowhere does it say the holding is also producing gold. Six.

Gifts and favors + personality questions

I would like to know if the "Gifts and Favors" holding card is: a fixed one into the FOU set (but I havn't found it into the official list, and it has no number!); a "reprinted" into the FOU set (but I can't find in which set it was originally printed!).

Originally printed in 1,000 Years of Darkness (see checklists at URL above). One is reprinted in each Fall of Otosan Uchi starter deck.

Are there any FOU personality with a double version?

No.

Dairu no Shiryo question

Can [Dairu no Shiryo] target different personalities from the same player, repeatedly?

This is an easy one: the answer's on the card! :) "You may not target more than one Personality per turn controlled by the same player."
