post for 28 August 2002

Jeff Alexander, sent 29 August 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Rules Question

Akodo Yobi Reaction: Draw a card after playing a Terrain from your hand. This is a use of the Tactician trait.

Lion Scout Reaction: Bow when one of your Lion Clan Personalities uses the Tactician trait. The Personality may use the trait one additional time this battle, but it must be a use he or she did not use previously this battle.

White Shore Plain Delayed Terrain Battle: Each Tactician who has not used the Tactician trait for this battle gains a Force bonus equal to his or her Chi.

If I play a WSP and take Yobi's reaction to draw a card and also react with the lion scout for the tactican thing, will Yobi (Satomi and Fujimaro's abilities also spring to mind) still gain the force bonus from the WSP?

Lion Scout will not allow a Personality to take a Tactician action and still get a bonus from White Shore Plain. Lion Scout gives the Personality a second use of Tactician -- it does not erase the memory of his first use.

Corruption's Price question

Can Corruption's Price be used if the opponent has only Shadowlands Personalities and no Jade cards? (Assuming they do have and bow the requisite Shadowlands Holding, I mean.)

Corruption's Price targets the additional card to be destroyed. The additional destruction is mandatory, not optional. [card text] Targeted actions cannot be taken if all their targets can't be picked. [p. 46]. So the answer is "no".

Question about this... RE: [L5R-CCG] New booster draft format in the next Herald.

The uniqueness rule is waived for construction or for construction AND play?

Construction AND play. It's completely disregarded.

For example, if I am playing Crab, I can have more than 1 Kuni Utagu exp in the deck, how about in play?

In play, too.

How about opponents?

You can have one and he can have one (or more).

Draw them out...?

Hmmm...that's not the way I interpret it. If a Dragon player uses his SH ability you can still play it when he draw his card at the end of the turn becuae the reason the card he is drawign is the second one is because of his SH affect.

I could be wrong.

The one normal draw during the End Phase is not a card or Stronghold effect. It cannot serve as a trigger for playing Draw Them Out, although it will be discarded if DTO is played earlier and this draw is one of the next five made by that player that turn.

missing digest(s)

Okay- who do I pester when I miss digests? My co-worker tried to call forth the power of the mighty majordomo and I emailed the list moderator - all to no avail.

The digest list isn't archived, but the individual mailing list is, and the address is listed on our mailing list web page. The site for the L5R-CCG archive is

Hida advisor question

Can I use hida advisor's ability during a battle?

It says "during any player's Action Phase". No.

Best decks in l5r history?

Crane - Robot Honor out of the Esteemed Palaces

If I'm not mistaken, the only time Crane were ever dominant was in the early Hidden Emperor period, and I don't think I'd class the decks of the time as Robot Honor.

Crane started having new success with Anvil of Despair, which gave them Kakita Shijin and To Do What We Must, and gave honor decks in general Refugees and To The Last Man.

New booster draft format in the next Herald.

If you are playing an Open Booster Draft, and you choose Spirit as your stronghold, what holdings would they start with?

Shrine of the Dead.
