A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Revealing focus cards is part of duel resolution [p. 62]. Judgement of Toshiken is playable and would trump Unprepared's winner determination.
But... if there are no cards to be revealed, even though its part of resolution... noone DID the action that is the trigger... nobody flipped focus cards.... thus no trigger, no?
Judgement of Toshiken triggers on the same thing as Poisoned Weapon: the end of the "reveal focus cards" step of duel resolution.
Oni no Akuma and Forgotten tombs
Hey all just wondering what would happen when you put Oni no Akuma under The forgotten tombs...
After an appropriate delay of six (or seven, for the Spawning Grounds) turns, it enters play and does not destroy any Provinces because it did not enter play from a Province.
Ronin Points?
Ok here's something I'd meant to ask a while ago...
According to Imperial Assembly options you can sign up as ronin. Additionally players that were aligned to various removed factions were shifted into the ronin status for their memberships.
While somewhat unsettling, I can deal with (playing TA I was pretty much ronin already).
When I went down to the IL kotei I asked to be signed up as ronin, I was informed that I could not do so. I was mildly irratated, but it wasn't a big deal. I ended up being signed up as lion with kaneka though I wanted to be ronin with keneka since it was a story event.
Someone was misinformed. "Ronin" is a valid choice for Imperial Assembly affiliation.

So if this scenario:
I control Hoturi, and my opponent is some scorpion scum personality. I challenge him to a duel. He focuses. I focus a Focus, adding 10 thanks to a Double Chi. He focuses, I focus another Focus. I should now have twenty-five or so personal honor. Scorpion-scum says strike, and flips up Fatal Mistake and Karmic Strike.
Will I then get twenty-five honor if Kakita Shijin writes a poem about the hero Hoturi?
Yes.
I thought that Focus gains were only until the end of the duel, which would mean that his ersonal Honor returned to normal as he died, then was just 5 when he was checked by the Poet.
Death of the loser happens during duel resolution, which is still during the duel. He will still have his focusing bonuses when he dies.
Alternatively, all effects that are not permanent disappear when you die,
That has not been true in L5R since the Shadowlands rulebook was printed (and possibly before even that).

Exactily how is this the case?
Where does it say on unprepared to reveal your imaginary focus cards?
"The duel resolves immediately." [card text]
"Then resolve the duel by revealing all Focus cards and comparing the duelists' final Chi totals." [p. 62]
You never can reveal focus cards in an unprepared duel (not because you have no focus cards, but because Unprepared tells you to skip that step). Unprepared does not say immediately reveal focus cards. It says "Win Duel".
I'll see what the Rules Team wants to do with this one.
Give us poor saps running items a small chance at dueling glory.
Then again, Judgement of Toshiken was made to do exactly what it's doing here: override "we fight this duel in a special way" cards.
(sans sujet)
I know that the answer will not be know before the realease of BB but I might have forgotten my question at the time, so I'll wait and be please to see the answer at the right time.
Dangerous Extremes says No player may declare an attack ...
Now if a card force you to attack, such as An empty victory, how this will interact, do you have to blow your province and attack or does An empty victory go without pertinent effect? And with Rikugunshokan?
If you aren't allowed to declare an attack, you can't declare an attack. It's that simple. You are not forced to pay any special costs to allow yourself to attack.
Something that penalizes you for not attacking may or may not care that you couldn't -- only whether you did. You have to take these on a case by case basis. An Empty Victory will do nothing. Rikugunshokan will cause a loss no matter why you didn't attack with him.

Don't follow you on the second part, unless we are supposed to be keeping track of the bowed status of destroyed personalities? last I checked crane tattooed said "when this personality is destroyed" an interpretation that the personality would be still alive (and therefore bowed) at the time of the trigger would seem to fit "while this personality is being destroyed" rather than the current wording (which I hope I've got right).
I don't see a difference between "when he's destroyed" and "when he's being destroyed". They're both sufficiently present-tense enough that the Personality has not yet hit the discard pile.
post for 30 July 2002 ( Counterattack question)
Can I play 2 counterattacks, at the end of a battle resolution segment, does this mean, that I gain one combat phase, and then another.
Do I have to play the two after the resolution segment.
Or do I play one, get to counterattack, and then play the other.
You play them one at a time and fully conduct each one's new Attack Phase before you can play the next one.
And please trim the rest of the original post next time you reply with automatic quotations.
Solitary Engagement
Well, It doesn't say whether the challenge is refuseable or not, so I'd say the matter is up in the air.
As has been pointed out, according to the rulebook, challenges are normally refusable without penalty.
Winds, mostly
Just as a question, to Jeff and all, I imagine that Sezaru is next after none with Naseru and Kaneka roughly tied. Any numbers?
No firm ones.
Relentless Assault [SPOILERS]
Admittedly, this trait could be called "Horseshoes" and have no rulebook text at all. It would be almost as good. Yu, as originally designed, was a terrible failure.
It looks that way because players keep trying to use it as an offensive asset when it isn't.
The Latest BB Preview!
- It doesn't send the unit home bowed.
but it does doesn't it. don't all cards that send home units send them home bowed, unless otherwise stated.
or did they change that for gold?
It's the other way around, and it hasn't changed. If I send a card home, it goes home. That's all. It doesn't bow, it doesn't lose Force, it doesn't gain a Potato token...it just goes home, because that's all I did to it.
Ghedai- what clan?
I just bought a gold ed. booster and i got a ghedai, which at the bottom reads "Naga shugenja-nonhuman, Battle: bow Ghedai to move one of your units from one defenders provinces to another." I was wondering what clan this card belongs to if any.
He belongs to the Naga Faction. A list of Factions is in the rulebook on pages 34-35. The full list is used in all games, even in tournament formats where some Factions have no legally-playable Strongholds.
