post for 23 May 2002

Jeff Alexander, sent 24 May 2002 to the l5r-ccg mailing list, the l5r-useful list

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

I'm going to be at the Los Angeles Kotei and Strategicon Game Convention until Tuesday. Vaughn or Zen will once again be filling in my silk slippers in the interim.

Clan Champions (was: post for 22 May 2002)

Does the Personality have to be aligned with a rulebook-defined Faction in order to count as a Clan Champion? Or does he merely need the words Clan and Champion next to each other on the trait line?

Just the words next to each other.

Imperial Edicts vs Towers of the Asako

Imperial Edicts states Political Reaction: When a card casts a Kiho or Spell or uses an innate ability, discard the Imperial Favor to cancel that action.

As is says "when a card casts a kiho or spell...." (the shugenja is the one casting the spell or kiho) is it targeting the shugenja, and as such can the towers cancel it.

It is not targeting the shugenja. It only targets the action.

post for 22 May 2002 > Kolat Master&Doji Shizue

Only to clarify: Is legal kolat master a Bayushi Kaukatsu, then use his reaction to make the other player lose the same amount of Honor (=4).??

Yes.

Street to Street

Street to Street say

"Destroy any Followers that any player cannot legally attach."

If all opposing personalities are bowed can reattach followers??? :? if it can do! , why it can do?

You may attach Followers to your bowed Personalities if someone else played Street to Street. You can't if you played it. This is because it's the Street to Street Action card telling you to reattach them, and you can't target your own bowed Personalities with your actions.

You can't "bow units that have elite followers" while they're detached

why can't bow that personality ???

It's impossible to bow the Personality they're attached to because they are not attached to ANYONE while Street to Street is in effect.

Region cards

Hello-

Simple question. Can multiple region cards effect the same province? For example, if I get plains above evil in my left-most province, and later Streets of Otosan Uchi turns up in the same place, so they both have an effect?

If not, I imagine that winning with an SCC deck by getting all four walls of Otosan Uchi in play in basically impossible.

Regions -- the card type with the dark gold border -- are limited to one per Province, period. Fortifications -- which are a subset of the Holding card type with the trait "Fortification" on them -- are limited to one of each title per Province, but there is no limit on how many different ones one Province can have. This is in the rulebook under "Card Types In Detail" on pages 28-29.

L5R rules questions

Hi Jeff,

I don't expect answers to these by private mail, but cold you copy the answers to these few questions into your next rulings post? Thanks in advance,

Alrighty.

Q.1 Hantei Naseru Wind and multiple use If I have the favour and Acquiring the favour in hand, can I react at the start of my turn, using Naseru wind to name two different phases to be affected until the start of my next turn, paying the cost with the favour itself and the card? Or does this fall under reacting to the same trigger twice with one card, even if the costs are paid by different sources?

It's using the same printed Reaction more than once to the same trigger. You can't do it.

Q.2 Blackened Skies + Daidoji Rekai Under Blackened Skies, may I activate Rekai's ability to move in and shoot without interrupting the chain of Ranged Attacks? I.E. Does it count as an action that produces a ranged attack even if there are some other side effects?

Her action produces a ranged attack, so it's legal. It doesn't matter if it does other things besides.

Paneki Exp. Questions.. Presence and Relevance

some questions:

Player A declares an attack on Player B Player A don“t declare infantry or cavalry Player B defends with one scorpion personality on fatemost. Player A decides to solve dinmost battle First.

Can player A move Paneki exp. to the current battle (dinmost) ?

No. He refers to "this battle", which is one of those special phrases that means he has to be in the current battle already for that action to be legal.

Can player A move another escorpion personality he controls to the current battle?

In general, yes. Just not with Paneki Exp.

Can Player A move his opponent personality on fatemost to dinmost with paneki?

No, for the same reasons as question 1.
