Shinjo Xushen
Greetings! Does Xushen's ability affect items attached to him like Fox Nagamaki and Daikyu?
"If Xushen assigns during Infantry Maneuvers, he gains +1F and +1 strength to any ranged attacks he performs until the end of the attack phase."
Since he uses the term "perform", it would indeed apply to any ranged attacks on his Items, by the latest rulebook.
seeking some clarification
ok several questions i was wondering if i could get some help on
1. If you have a Nonexperienced Void dragon in play, and the one requiring the ring of void in play face up, can you overlay without having the ring in play?
Yes. Overlaying does not count as bringing the card into play.
2. Can Shadowlands have allies now? I cant find anything in the new rulebooks that say otherwise.
The restriction was always on the Stronghold, not in the rulebook. If the Stronghold doesn't forbid it, it's allowed.
3. Traits overwrite when you overlay, so does that mean if i have Isawa Kaede Exp. In play and i overlay Exp 2, that now I no longer get the abilty of my shugenja not having to bow to cast kihos in the same army as her, and only get that Ninja cards cost 2 gold to straighten?
That is correct.
4. Clarification of the Kaiu Sensi, If i have 3 barbicans at 3 different provinces, does that mean that at each battle i get +3 force, and all my ranged attacks are doubled then doubled then doubled again?
Right and right.
5. Is destroying a personality/follower with Yu a card effect?
No.
Can i use Seppun Toshiken's ability to destroy one of the player's personalities when they use Yu on me?
No.
Soshi Eiji Clarifications
The debate is, what exactly constitutes variable and non-variable? Since the Ikiryo's honor loss is dependant upon the chi of the personality it is attached to, the honor loss in my opinion would be variable. So the NEW combo of giving the Wandering Monk with a Ikiryo follower to your oponent, then bowing Eiji to make them lose honor would not work. Or would it?
It's only variable if you don't know how large it's going to be until it happens. The Ikiryo's loss can be chosen by Eiji because the amount is known: it's equal to the Chi of the Ikiryo's Personality.
Domotai and Test of might

Just to be sure: Since the rules archive states: Because focuses provide a stat bonus, effects that prevent bonuses will affect focusing (e.g., Monsoon, Naga Guard). [REVERSAL, JA, e-mail, 30 August 2000] In a test of might Domotai cannot get a strength higher than his chi by focusing and all focuses after this limit is reached dont provide any further bonus.

Mushin/Jagged Earth /Blackened Sky/The Noble Halls of the Akodo Question (JEFF)
OK, here's the situation. Playing Mantis, I attack a Lion player using the Noble Halls. All of my guys are naturally Naval except the Tsurchi Hiro and he has been made Naval with my stronghold ability. He has a good deal of ranged attack followers on him. Enough to...get the job done if this works. I declare a Naval Invasion and my first faction is Mushin (Battle: Take two consecutive Open or Battle actions after this one.).
My next two actions are Jagged Earth
You can stop right there. Jagged Earth is illegal. In a naval invasion, no Terrains can be played by a player who has units in the naval army until someone who doesn't have units in it has had a chance to pass or take an Open or Battle action.
A) Since Mushin says 2 consecutive actions, I can play Blackened Sky before he can react to the Jagged Earth. I kill his whole army, jump on the table, and yell, "Tsurchi just laid the smackdown on your candy ***!!" or some other wrestling trash talk.
B) The Jagged Earth is negated first, so I have to shoot the followers first.
If it weren't for the naval terrain goof, the answer would be B). Mushin doesn't give you two uninterruptable actions. It makes it your "turn" to take a Battle/Open action twice in a row.
While I'm on the subject, if I play 2 Mushin in a row, how many free actions do I have then? 2 or 3?

If abilities from items are now considered to be coming from the personality they are attached to,
They are not coming from the Personality. They're "performed" by the Personality. Slight difference.
Rules question
Crystal Gate, and kiau sensei.
does this mean only two shadowlands units can assign per provence?
Yes. Both limits ("no more than two" and "no more than two") both apply, but they're not cumulative, so the result is the same as if you only had one.
