A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Question about Omoni
If Omoni is in play and I'm using The Spawning Ground <---stronghold. It reads Your Goblin, Ogre, Oni, and troll personalities each gain +1F/+1C since oni is in Omoni's name do I gain +1/+1 for him being a goblin and +1/+1 for him having oni in his name?
The Spawning Ground either gives its bonus or it doesn't. There's no way to get +2/+2 from it. And, no, "Omoni" is not an oni. You can't break up words like this. [AOF rulebook p. 33]
Question on the Oracle of Fire & Shosuro Higatsuku. Still looking for help.
The main debate was whether the Oracle targets Shosuro Higatsuku or not. All agreed that if it targets him it cant be used now that Reactions are actions and you cant target your own bowed personalities with actions.
I was wrong. You were right. The Oracle of Fire targets your duelist, so it can't be used if he's bowed. This is a REVERSAL.

And related Oracle of Fire questions. In an Iaijutsu Art duel I am assuming that if someone uses the Oracle it counts as that personalities one focus for the duel - can that player then use Kakita Technique to then strike?
Yes. Ow. ps. Ithought both players had to focus in an Iaijutsu Art, or am I wrong?
They must focus if possible, but the timing is that of a normal duel. If one player can legally strike before the other gets the chance to focus, the duel goes into resolution and the chance never comes.
Further along the Moto Chagatai question road
In this same situation, except whatever send home action isn't bowing Zhijuan, can she be the target for Moto Chagatai's ability? She's sent home, but then pulled right back in? As long as she is unbowed.
Yes.

It's not illegal in L5R to perform an action even when you know some or all of its effects will do nothing.
This is a very separate issue from when an effect has no valid target, correct?
Correct. Very, very separate.
What your saying is it would be perfectly legal to, say, cast a spell with the only valid target being a personality with text saying "Negate all spell effects targetting this personality", whereas if the only valid target were one with text saying "This personality may not be targetted by spell effects" the entire action would be illegal, and could not even be attempted, even if there were other, non-targetted effects, correct?
Bingo.
"Too Good for Gold" - Top 10
I'd love an explanation from someone on the rules team as to the Exact interacting between a Test of Courage and Entrapping Terrain, Flattery, and Torrential Rain one of these days, actually.
Ending the battle is the key. If something ends a battle, units go back to their homes by virtue of no longer having someplace else they can be instead. Words to the effect of "going home bowed" at this point do not remove units from battle, for there is no battle. They only describe what happens to the units upon being home once more.
