Streets to Streets
Considering what is ruled by now... What if the Followers of the 'Victim' of Streets to Streets were reatached by the Plyers of StS on the 'victim's ' personalities ??
Hypothetically, that would also be legal.
Problems with timing in duels...
Hi there. If anyone could answer this :
When is a personality considered to be in a duel ? This question is about 'Bayushi Kwanchai' and 'Kakita Rensei'. Can Kwanchai use his ability or not when a Scorpion personality is challenged by Rensei ? Can the challenged personality use the Kiho Double-Chi in front of Rensei ?....
No and no.
I would like if possible a detailled timing of when you consider a personality is "in" a duel; is it when the challenge is made, when the personality accepts the challenge (or Duel) or after the personality accepts ?
Hopefully, the other email I just sent will clear all this up.
Questions
With the new Favor rules, there are no "standard Imperial Favor effects". Yoshi's Reaction cannot be used.
*blink*. Seeing as how each of the Winds are legal and addressed as cards each player must begin with in the rulebook, what causes their texts not to reflect "standard Imperial Favor" effects?
They're cards. If you can only do X because you have a card in play that says "Action: Do X.", it's not "standard".
The phrase "standard Imperial Favor effects" has no specific rulebook definition that I found and would thus seem to apply to whatever the rulebook mentions the Favor able to do.
There's a problem with that argument. The section on lobbying mentions that the Favor, once taken, can be used for "effects that require you to discard it". That's, well, everything.
I wanted to confirm a few things about Bayushi Yokuan so I can pre-empt the inevitable argument when it comes up.
If Yokuan challenges someone with an Enlightened Tutor, does the Tutor negate the necessity of bowing as an additional cost (the "without penalty" bit"). It makes sense that the honor loss from I. Challenge is a penalty, but the bowing thing from Yokuan was termed a cost on the FAQ, so this seems different.
Second, even with Dairya's "not today" clause, would one-eye still be forced to bow to refuse Yokuan (as he is not forbidden to refuse, but bowing is the cost to do so)?
And, on that note, would Kuro Sensei allow one to refuse without bowing?
Forwarded to the Rules Team.
Rules questions, and someone else's preview.
1. If you Brash Hero a personality that's subsequently bowed (favor diving, et al) , is the targeted player still forced to declare an attack with no units (So you may counter)?
By Gold Edition card text, no. The attack is only mandatory if the targeted Personality is assignable.
2. You destroy two personalities are destroyed in battle. One wears the Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess, and lives again. You gain. A) 2 Honor. B) 4 honor (only destroyed the Obi), C) 6 honor (not your fault they came back.
The Obi self-destructs before resolution destroys it and the Personality's destruction is negated. 2 Honor.
Rules questions, and someone else's preview.
Also, I note that the APC rulebook says "Destroy all <appropriate> units" on p56, rather than "Destroy all <appropriate> cards". Thus if you can save the personality from destruction, you save all cards attached to that personality from destruction. I think.
Nope. The rest of the unit is still destroyed.
Shosuro Technique question
In the card Shosuro Technique
Text: This card costs 2 less Gold if it targets a Scorpion Clan or Ninja Personality. Reaction: When one of your Personalities enters a duel, raise your Personality's Chi to equal the other Personality's Chi. Battle: Raise the Force of one of your Personalities in this battle to equal the Force of an opposing Personality.
The first ability as far as I know does not target, since its a reaction when one of your personalities enters a duel. Then, ¿Does Shosuro technique cost two gold when I use it for the duel reaction with one of my scorpion personalities?
Under Gold Edition targeting rules, it targets both Personalities in both cases.
Aramasu/Kitao Qs
In one of Jeff earlier posts he implied that Yoritomo Aramasu survives Yoritomo Kitao XPs coming in to play effect. I would just like someone to clarify exactly what happens in the following situations:
1) I have Bayushi Aramasu xp 0, Yoritomo Aramasu and Kitao xp 0 in play. I then bring Kitao xp into play.
Bayushi Aramasu is discarded, as per Kitao's card text.
2) As above but I overlay Kitao xp rather than bring her in seperatly.
Overlaying won't make any Aramasus discard.
Rules questions, and someone else's preview.
This seems a good time to bring up the card I'm confused with: No One Wins.
Political Reaction: Play during battle resolution to prevent all honor gains from destroying cards during this battle's resolution.
Does this cards prevent card destruction if the winner wants to gain honor, on a card-for-card basis? Does it save the entire army? I'm also confused by the wording; I thought cards were destroyed then honor was given out. This card seems to say you gain honor, then destroy cards.
Just confirming here: this card only prevents the honor gain. Everything still dies that would have otherwise.
to do what we must question
can I choose one of my bowed personalities to destroy one of my opponents personalities?
No, because...
Does to do what we must targets you own personality? your opponents personality?
Both.
If I redirect one of my actions with shosuro gardens, can I redirect that action again using shinjo tech?
Yes, although there is only one case where this is any different from just using Shinjo Technique alone: the rare situation that you're able to redirect an action from one of your non-Personalities to one of your Personalities. (Shosuro Gardens redirects a non-Kiho Action card from one of your cards to another; Shinjo Technique redirects an Action card from one of your Personalities to one of the Action's player's Personalities.)
tangen question
I have two Bayushi Tangen in play, one with an ancestral sword..
I Iajutsu art whit the one without the sword, and then replace him with the other with the ancestral sword.
This move is legal?
Yes.
No One Wins
Does that mean then that Kakita Shijin and Memorial won't work with No One Wins active?
They work. Those gains aren't from destroying cards.
counterattack question
can you counter a counterattack with fall on your knees?
No. Counterattack is not played during the Battle Action Segment.
can you counter a ring played in battle with fall on your knees?
No. Rings, by MRP, are not Reactions.
Ikoma Fudai
The new scan is up.
Question: If you had Ikoma Fudai in an army that took a province (no defenders) you would still gain two, correct?
I tend not to answer questions about cards that haven't been released yet. However, I would like to point out that the rulebook states that there is no winner or loser if there is only one army at resolution, even if a Province is destroyed.
inate abilities (rule question)
I know kiho's are spell effects.
are kiho's spells?
Kiho cards are Action cards, not Spell cards, although their effects are treated as Spell effects.
are kiho's inante abilities?
No.
but some one was trying to convince me that kiho's are innate abilites I disagree,
An innate ability is an ability on a shugenja card.
can a kiho target someone wearing armor of the shadow warrior. that says "spells and innate abilities can not target it"
No. According to the rulebook, anything that interacts with casting or targeting spells works with kihos as well.
Honor and military and honor
They're just like the other Clans now. There are people they can't buy until they gain honor. Even Scorpion is starting to have to deal with it.
Well, yay. Let's make honor that much stronger than military, because military decks have to gain honor now to be effective (or play corrupt) whereas honor decks have to only gain honor and do their usual tricks (dueling, peep destruction, and send-home).
Yes. You have a choice: go corrupt for speed or go honorable for mid-to-late-game strength.
What I seem to be hearing is "one of those will always be better than the other, so any clans that have multiple deck types will always be weaker than the ones where the design is forced (Shadowlands, Lion) because the flexible clans' card mix will be diluted between their most-viable strategies and the other ones".
I think that's a gross oversimplification.
The Crab, in comparison, have a lousy selection of Personalities when it comes to Personal Honor. Utagu's very good, but after him it drops really sharply. And what's worse is that the Crab are getting saddled with Personalities who both have a low Personal Honor AND a high honor requirement, which is odd because now the Personality in question is no help - in fact, its inclusion is a detriment - to getting ITSELF out.
Alright now, this is the third time I've seen this alluded to. It makes no sense to me. If you're below the Personality's own HR, it doesn't matter how much you'd gain by buying him full price because you can't buy him. And if you're above it, it STILL doesn't matter because you don't need it anymore. Are people secretly referring only to staying above the minimum, in the face of Suspicions and their own Frenzies and the like, once they reach it?
Timing Question
Does the reaction on Famous Poet have to be played before a Rally Cry or does the attacker get to chose to Rally before playing the reaction on Famous Poet?
Famous Poet, the Holding? Always before Rallying Cry because it's done during resolution.
(Now if you mean Ikoma Sume/Kaoku, the answer is, you can use them in either order since they're reacting to the same thing: the end of the battle.)
Is Tsuno a Family?
Something just struck me...according to Rokugan custom, the family name comes first (i.e. Bayushi Tangen is from the Bayushi family). So, is Tsuno a family? Things like "Ogre Warrior" or "Goblin Wizard" are obviously just "titles" or "labels". If it was "Tsuno Pack Leader" or "Tsuno Chieftan" or something similar, I'd put it into the label category as well. But "Tsuno Kurushimi" sounds, to me, like a proper name.
"Tsuno" is a family name, yes.
Honor and military and honor
A slow but steady increase in power is GOOD for the game. It keeps people excited about new cards. It means new decks and strategies are constantly being developed.
A steady increase in power does not create new decks or strategies. It merely improves existing ones. People take the 4F 8g people out of their decks and replace them with 4F 6g people.
New strategies come from other things, like new card types like Kihos, drastic environment changers like Refugees and Stand Against the Waves, or a sharp increase in power of something that had been undervalued, like Fear or Ranged Attacks.
