This is with regards to the new Dragon shugenja.

Tamori Chieko Dragon Clan Shugenja - Tattooed When Chieko enters play, you may discard a Fate card to draw a card. [...] Now, does this mean that Chieko with the Crane Tattoo will activate her enter play ability every time she comes 'back from the dead'?

Yes. Returning to play includes "entering play" as a part of it.

So, how would this be handled if she had a Crane Tattoo and was killed with a 'Portence Bomb' (the playing of 3 Evil Portence)? Since the portence effect is until end of turn, everytime she came back into play, she die again...

Crane Tattoo only lets you return the Personality to play if she died "during a battle or duel". And the current clarification on "during a battle" is that the Personality has to be in the battle, too. If the Personality dies from a Portents during battle, comes back, and dies again, her second death isn't "during a battle" because she was in your fief when it happened. That means no Crane Tattoo reaction and no infinite loop.

b) if there is no tattoo card can I show my opponent another card from the 5 discard something from my hand and put the remaining 5 at the bottom of the deck

No.

As a follow up to this question, if there isn't a tattoo card or I decide not to choose one, the cards go back to the top of the deck?

Correct.

Strongholds/ and Mirumoto Taiu

Oh and can I get an official word on this semi-stupid question, Mirumoto Taiu has a Crab Mon on his armor, but obviously he's dragon. was this just a bungle in the art dept?

The Story Team is still working on this guy.

spirits

Are Spirits a playable faction in Gold?

No. There is no Gold-legal Spirit faction Stronghold.

Collusion and Black Crane Castle

Just wondering what counts as "collusion" in a BCC tourney.

The same things that would count as collusion in any other tourney: any arrangements between players to achieve a certain outcome other than legitimate in-game alliances.

In a multiplayer format like the one suggested, constant allying with one person might easily be seen as collusion.

If you suspect any kind of cheating, inform the tournament organizer or a judge.

What Promos are Legal?

When do the following become "Tournament legal?" <iai snip> Akasha:

When An Oni's Fury becomes legal.

Uh ? I thought the Seasons of the Unicorn package mentioned that Akasha was immediately legal in the accompanying booklet ?

I just re-read it. It says she's legal in your LEAGUE if you run your Season of the Unicorn event as a league, and that's it. It specifically says she's not immediately legal if you run it like a normal tournament, and otherwise does not address her legality.

Also, did the massive sending to the banner-forgotten people count as "officially released" for Kuso and Chousai ?

You mean Shousa, I assume?

On: Kuso

If, not, when will they be legal ? What about the other two ronin ?

That was not an official release for either card. Chiang-Tsu HAS been officially released -- he was part of the Welcome Home package -- and will be tournament-legal when A Perfect Cut is.

Revering the Past Q

This came up in a game recently and I was ruled against, tell me what you guys think. My opponent had Revering the Past resolve with no guys in play. I said he should lose 3 honor. Here's why:

Revering the Past Each player may get an Ancestor from his or her Fate deck and attach it to one of his or her personalities. The player need not bow the Personality. Each player who does not get an Ancestor this way loses 3 Honor.

From how I read it, if you do not have a personality to attach it to, you should lose 3 honor and not get an Ancestor. He said it was ruled "online" that he gets an Ancestor and adds it to his hand, losing no honor. It never says anything about adding it to their hand, nor does it say you have the choice to attach it. If you get one, it says you "attach it one of you guys" not "you may attach it to one of your guys". So, what is the ruling here Jeff?

From the archives, getting the Ancestor is all that's required to avoid the honor loss. Getting it and attaching it are two separate effects and the first resolves even if the second one can't.

Also, another quick question. When is a magistrates gold cost changed in the Utaku Palaces?

By its wording, continually.

Namely does Imperial Census affect Shinjo Tashima (Shinjo Osema)? Is his gold cost 8 or 7 when checked by the census?

It's 7. He's affected.

Would the wording not read "You many discard a card from your hand to reveal a tattoo card to the other players and put it in your hand". The current wording seems to imply you only put it in your hand if and only if it is a tattoo card.

It's all one big "if" clause. None of the optional effects happen without a tattoo card.

c) can I reorganise the order of anything I put the bottom

No.

So what order does it go in? top card on top etc?

The original order. Top card on top, etc.

Revering the Past Q

Revering the Past a.. You only need to get an Ancestor from your deck to avoid the honor loss. [JA, 25 January 2001; 18 July 2001] b.. The Ancestor is added to your hand if it cannot legally attach. [ZF,11 July 2001. This ruling is under review and may reverse.]

Is this ruling still under review?

No.

Since it has already been ruled that Sacrifices is not discarded when I do this, I move that by extension it be ruled that Vedau's clause is likewise not violated by use of KH's ability.

Notwithstanding cards which were deliberately designed to allow it, this game does not permit starting to do something that's not legal and then changing it to something that is.

If you cannot draw, you cannot use Kyuden Hitomi.

Sacrifices For Our Future does not forbid drawing; its effects end if you do draw. Thus it's legal to give up a draw to pay for Kyuden Hitomi, and because you did not actually draw, the effect does not end.

Ruling question: rules, crane tattoo

if a personality dies duing the resolution of a battle and has the crane tattoo.

does he come back from the dead.

I ask this because I was told that the tattoo was mrped into from dying (in a battle or duel) to (during a battle or duel)

He comes back. Resolution is still "during battle".
