Jeff Alexander, sent 12 September 2001 to the l5r-useful list, L5RINFO

A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Ancestors

Do the force and Chi of Ancestors have any meaning?

I suspect that something is missing from the "A Perfect Cut" rulebook.

They add the same way Followers' stats do. You're right, this is missing.

(jeff) Rules Q

A delayed terrain has resolved and I follow up with a samurai's fury, can I then use blackened sky to take any number of consectutive range attack actions?

Same deal with Signal teams, any number of tactican actions?

Yes and yes.

Or am I strictly limted to exactly *one* action?

If that one gives you more, you take more.

Promo Legality? (Ray, Dave)

When will the various promos become legal?

At the same time as the first set or expansion following the promo's release becomes legal.

Is Akasha legal now?

No.

On: Akasha

When will the mispacked promos become legal?

The same time as the ones which are properly released become legal. For most of them, that will be when An Oni's Fury becomes legal. It's entirely possible that a couple existing promos won't be formally released even by then, in which case you'll have to wait for the next set.

APC rules questions

Quote from the Gold rulebook, p. 53 (the APC rulebook is identical, AFAIK):

A player can only take actions associated with the current battle. This is called the _Rule_of_Relevance_. In particular, the action needs to satisfy at least one of the following conditions:

* It comes from a card or token at the battle.

* It moves or creates a card or token in the battle.

* It targets or directly affects a card or token in the battle, the Province under attack, or the battle itself.

* It is reacting to a card or token leaving the battle (including leaving play from the battle).

OK, now which part of this does Acquiring Favor satisfy? None. Ergo, Acquiring Favor is illegal during a battle.

Exactly, positively 100% correct, which is why I need to say add this to the card:

"You may take this action during battle, even in a battle in which you have no units."

APC rules questions

Phil,

You are incorrect, sir. Read over the relevance and presence rules in the Gold Edition rulebook more carefully. They are explicitly stated to solely affect Battle and Open Actions played in a battle.

Reactions ARE included now, under both these rules, in both the Gold and APC rulebooks. Trust me. I put them there.
