Rulings for 7 February 2001
I think this ruling would imply that Shinjo Tech is legal under Yodin, what would you out there think?
Point the first: "When you redirect an effect, you are only bound by the effect's original controller's targeting requirements. [27 June 1997]" So it doesn't matter that YOU couldn't have targeted your own bowed Raigen if you'd been the one casting the spell. Your opponent COULD have.
Forwarded to the Junta.
Scope of Agasha Join The Phoenix
Need a ruling on a situation that has come up during our games.
The card: The Agasha Joins the Phoenix
The text: Choose one family name from another Clan. For the rest of the game, Personalities from that family that you bring (or are bringing) into play are considered members of your Clan. (In Rokugan, a Personality's family name is first).
Question #1: What is the proper scope of this event? Am I only able to name those families that are part of another clan and not of my own, i.e., if I play ninja can I call Bayushi, or if I play TA can I call Matsu. I would say yes since there is no restriction saying that it can't be a family name of my clan as well.
You are correct. All that's necessary is at least one Personality with that family name with some other Clan's trait, regardless of how many there are with your own trait too.
Question #2: Am I able to say the name of any unaligned families, i.e. Heichi, Suzume, Seppun, etc.
Not if the family has no members at all in any of the card game's Clans, no.
Question #3: Is the scope of the card such that any legitimate family name is legal since in the furture any of the current unlaligned clans may become part of another clan. This has happened before with the Moto-they used to be just unaligned and then after LBS some appeared that were Unicorn Clan.
Only the cards that currently exist matter.
Superior Strategist question
Can the 'Superior Strategist' action be used to retrieve terrain from one's deck (considering that terrain are simply a different form of battle action).
Yes.
