Rulings for 20 January 2001

actions and reactions..Was.... Flee the Darkness vs Hito...
(I am not attempting to single Bob out by replying to his post. His phrasing simply made an easy transition into my response.)
Joe, both you and Keith are ignoring the fact that a triggering effect which triggers the reaction Flee the Darkness in the first place is being negated as the action is canceled, thus she cannot use the innate ability again.
According to the current Rulebook and English langauge, I am correct and the ruling is in err.
According to the rulebook, she both can AND can't use it again because, due to Flee's redundant wording, the action both was and was not taken. Anyone on either side of this topic who's trying to base an argument entirely on logic and exact current wordings cannot help but arrive at that paradox. Official clarification is needed, and that clarification has been given. Since the problem is with fundamental rules and definitions in the game, attempts to logically prove that the clarification is wrong will be circular and fail.
I'm asking everyone to let this thread drop for now. I've heard all your points, you've all stopped making new ones, and the issue has been elevated to the Rules Team for consideration.
