Dishonor Question

Dishonoring a personality is not a political action correct?

Correct. It is not.

Rulings for 13 January 2001

She cannot move in and shoot at nothing because her action requires a target, and it's not legal to take a targeted action without one. (She can move in and use Burn It Down because that card has been ruled to be usable even if you can't pick a legal real target for the ranged attack before Burn It Down is played.)

Jeff, can you please lable reversals like this when you make them? Thank you.

Sorry. I didn't realize it was a reversal.

Shinjo Tech

I seem to remember a ruling that Shinjo Tech was legal for a Yodin player to use because you weren't targeting, your opponent still was, you were merely redirecting. So, can a Yodin Sensei player use Shinjo Tech?

No. Picking a new target is an act of targeting (albeit bound by the original action's targeting restrictions, not yours).

Revering the Past

What happens if Revering the Past resolves and you don't have any Personalities in play? Do you automatically lose three honor?

How about if you have no Personalities in play, but you go and retrieve an Ancestor?

Forwarded to the Junta.

WotC Corporate TotEC

Ahem... bribery? Illegal isn't it? Oh well. -- JB

It's illegal at sanctioned tournaments. This wasn't a sanctioned tournament. It was a dozen or so guys getting together after work.

Kaiu Sensei and Barracks questions

Suppose I have Kaiu Sensei in play, and a Barracks with Followers attached.

* first, is the Barracks considered a unit without a Personality?

Yes, by card text.

* if it can receive Force bonuses that normally last until the end of the turn, are these bonuses still active in another battle? (in other words, under Kaiu Sensei, is it considered to be the same Personality in different battles?)

The Personality can't receive bonuses, but the Followers and the unit can, and they'd last their normal duration.

* if there is no Personality, but I manage to give a Force bonus to the _unit_ until the end of the turn (not sure if this is possible; I know Defenders of the Wall give a unit bonus, but only while defending at the Province), will this bonus report into other battles?

Yes.

Rules Question

Wow... I was told tonight that with Ring of Air, you can redirect Wind's Truth. Any confirmation of this?

You can. Here's how:

Player A gains honor.

Player B cast's Wind's Truth to transfer that gain to himself.

Player A wants to use his Ring of Air to change the Wind's Truth's target, but who can he change it to? He can't change it to himself, since he wasn't a legal target for the original casting. He can't change it to Player B since he's the target NOW. He has to pick some third player. If it's a two-player game, he's out of luck.

Also, if I'm playing Seppun sensei, can I redirect a Wind's Truth? Just curious.

Seppun Sensei will not make it illegal to redirect Wind's Truth in any situation. Changing the target of a Wind's Truth does not *directly* modify an honor loss or gain.

Arrows from the Ranks question

I have two questions about this card.

#1. Can this card be used against any duel, for example against a duel from Come One at a Time?

Yes. This card actually works better outside of battle than in because you don't have any restriction on which unit makes the attack.

#2. If I play Lessons of Honor against another player could I (not that I would want to as it costs honor) use it when he challenges my bowed samurai to try to end the lesson?

Yes.

Cancellation and Negation Esoterica(RE:[L5RINFO][Jeff]Fleethe Darkness vs Hitomi exp. 3)

what would happen if you attempt to flee an action that can't be canceled? (like a ninja or kolat action during the longest night) would you cancel all of it's effects?

You mean "negate" all its effects, don't you? Yes, it would negate them. BUT.

This brings up another issue: should The Longest Night be brought up-to-date with current definitions and prevent effects from being negated as well? I'd say "yes", which renders my first answer moot.
