Rulings for 13 January 2001
A rules digest from the L5R CCG rules team, copied from the mailing list archive for Oracle of the Void. The askers' names are left out. Rulings are as they stood on this date; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.
Come One at a Time
1) If it hasn't been re-printed, it's NOT YET an MRP! Unless it has been officially given an ERRATA, you would go by the original printing.
2) I don't have the original in front of me, so I'm not sure how this is different from the original wording and can make any difference.
************
The difference, according to Legendary, is small. The original printing gives the "send one of your units home" ability only to the attacker. The ruling gives it to both players. The ruling also specifically states that the units that go home do so bowed.
The only big change is that the new wording incorporates the ruling that the challenges can only be issued, and units can only be sent home, while the Terrain is in play. The original version, as written, allowed challenges to be made for the rest of the turn, even if the Terrain was destroyed. There are other differences, but they're all rather subtle.
Daidioji Rekai
At the tournament I was at today, the Crane players insisted that Daidoji Rekai exp2 could move into a battle in which she couldn't perform her ranged attack. If this is right, why the hell does she only cost 11 gold, and have a zero honor requirement? I mean look at her, she has 3 ph, 4F/4C, cavalry and one of the best offensive abilities in the game!!!! Good God, she is going in my Unicorn deck tonight!
She cannot move in and shoot at nothing because her action requires a target, and it's not legal to take a targeted action without one. (She can move in and use Burn It Down because that card has been ruled to be usable even if you can't pick a legal real target for the ranged attack before Burn It Down is played.)
Flee the Darkness vs Hitomi exp. 3
Jeff,
During the Test, we had the following occur and we would like to know the correct answer.
Hitomi exp 3 challenged Hida Amoro, using her battle action duel, Kuni Utagu cast Flee the Darkness.
Can Hitomi challenge again using her action, which was cancelled and effects negated by Flee the Darkness? Yes or No
Yes. An action which has been canceled does not count as having been used.
Quick Questions I need answered very quickly please
1) If under At'tok'touk sensei, ratlings aren't considered to have sworn fealty to you, can you play oath of fealty and give them all +1/+1?
They haven't sworn fealty, but they DO have your Clan's alignment trait. Oath of Fealty will not affect them.
2) Can you name Ratling as a clan for alliance to have them cost 2 less?
Not really. You can name the Ratling "Clan", but that Clan does not use the word "Ratling" as its alignment trait.
Kaiu Sensei/Barracks questions
When using Kaiu Sensei:
1. Has it been ruled conclusively that Followers at a Barracks are considered to be at all Provinces?
Yes. Barracks says "During battles at this province, the Barracks and its Followers act as a defending unit if the Barracks has any Followers attached." That's a trait, so it's active during battles at all your Provinces as though it were at that Province.
If the answer to question #1 is yes:
2. I have 8F of Followers attached to a Barracks at Province #1. My opponent attacks Province #2. During Resolution, he has 9F. Are my Followers destroyed?
Yes. By its own text, the Followers + Barracks is considered a defending unit at Province #2, and so will be destroyed during resolution upon losing or tying in a battle. Each card will also be worth honor, including the Barracks itself.
How about if the opponent has enough Force to destroy Province #2, does that make any difference?
No.
3. I have a Defenders of the Walls in a Barracks at Province #1. There are two other Fortifications at Province #1, for a total of three. My opponent is attacking Province #2, which has no Fortifications attached. What is the total Force of Defenders of the Wall in the battle at Province #2?
An unadjusted 2. There are no Fortifications at Province #2.
