A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Ok so if my opponent uses the unit kill part of his battle action and i ryoshun's it and target a card in another unit that is an attachment is that legal sense the previous target was to destroy a unit with lower gold? Also if that second unit is also lower gold will it destroy the card i targeted or the whole unit? I understand that it says OR so im assuming when i use ryoshun's i get to choose now weather it kills a card without attachments or the unit correct?

Bowing, destruction, and movement from Battle actions Hiromi performs will not be negated or delayed. Battle: Target an enemy card without attachments, or an enemy unit, with a lower total Gold Cost than Hiromi's unit: Hiromi strikes with the power of Thunder. Destroy the target.

Please note the trigger on Ryoshun's Guidance: "When another player's action would target one of your cards". Since Hiromi is targeting a unit, he is also targeting its Personality. Then we get to the second part of Ryoshun's: "Choose another of your non-Stronghold cards at the same location. The action targets it instead, if legal". You can choose another card as the target. This is however only targeting that card, no-longer targeting a unit, so it will only destroy that card.
