Wartime Preparations vs Accidental Confession vs AA

L5R CCG Rules board, 8 August 2012 to 27 September 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

If I have Wartime Preparations in play and someone uses Accidental Confession on my personality and I react and negate it with Astonishing Accusation, can he Accidental Confession me again and not have its effects negated?

Yes. [EDIT: Answer stands, but incorrect reasoning behind it excised.]

How does the game determine that assignment was prevented? If a Personality cannot assign, can they still be "declared" as such to trigger Wartime?

Essentially, yes. When there's an opportunity based on game procedure or a targeted action (such as performing Ambush) that would allow the Personality to assign, and he is prevented, that "triggers" Wartime Preparations.

EDIT: Reversed, see final post below.

Regarding viewtopic.php?f=59&t=99255,

can I attempt to assign a Cavalry personality who has been targeted by Accidental Confession during the infantry phase, have the assignment be blocked by Accidental confession, then reassign during the cavalry phase successfully because Wartime Preparations has now been triggered?

Under discussion.

Any chance for a ruling for Emeralds?

Curious to see the resolution to this question.

Curious to see the resolution to this question.

Assignment prevention is an ongoing effect, and starts when the effect is created - eg, when Accidental Confession is played - not when a player wants to assign one of his units and can't. When the second Accidental Confession or similar is played in one turn, its assignment prevention effect is negated immediately.

Note that the following paragraph under Effects, Duration and scope of prevention effects means that a second copy of Delayed Arrival resolved in one turn will be permanently negated: If a prevention effect is already being applied and prevents a new ongoing effect, the new ongoing effect never happens; it does not re-assert itself when the prevention effect ends.

If an assigment prevention effect is negated by another effect, such as Astonishing Accusation's negation, so that the assigment prevention effect is never created, Wartime Preparation will not count this for its "the second or later time each turn" clause.
