I am playing Kalani's Landing. My opponent announces an action that refers to a performer's gold cost (Gold and Steel, Power of Strength, Games of Will, Oblivious). May I announce the reaction on Kalani's Landing to hinder the possible targets my opponent's performer may target?
More specifically, I have an 8 Gold Cost personality at a battle opposed by a 9 Gold Cost personality. My opponent announces Gold and Steel choosing one of the personalities as a performer. May I react with Kalani's Landing to Gold and Steel to make the action have no legal targets? What happens to the strategy? Would the answer be different if my 8 GC personality were opposed by two 9 GC personalities (do I have to announce Kalani's Landing's reaction before or after he chooses performers)?
Relevant Text:
Gold and Steel Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Personality and target an enemy Personality with an equal or lower Gold Cost: Bow him. You may move him home.
Kalani's Landing Reaction: After an action is announced, target a card (in play): Give it -2 Gold Cost.

You may react with Kalani's Landing in this way, and your opponent will be unable to meet the targeting requirements of the action.
See Interference with required targeting or performing: From the point when an action is announced in good faith, to the point when a particular required targeting or performing occurs (including reactions "when X would target"), if anything interferes so that a piece of required targeting or performing can no longer be met, the action fails. Further targeting and performing choice does not take place, the action's costs are ignored, and its effects do not happen. The action is still considered taken and ended, but not resolved, and the ability that created it is considered used. If the action was on a Strategy card, the card is discarded normally.
