Searching for answers vs no presence

L5R CCG Rules board, 12 May 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Can I play searching for answers in a batlle in which I don't control any units?

Text of the card:

Battle: If you are the Defender: Look at the top 4 cards of your Dynasty deck. If one of them is a Personality, you may put him into play at the current battlefield, ignoring Gold cost. Put the remaining cards back in any order. Discard him after the battle ends.

Thanks for your help

Per the Rule of Presence, this will work as the effect is able to bring a Personality into play at the battlefield (despite the fact that it may not if you don't see a Personality).
