Uniqueness - The Great Bear / Hotako and Hotako exp 3

L5R CCG Rules board, 19 April 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Hida Kisada's notes section on oracle says:

Notes This is a distinct card from the Imperial Edition card of the same name

Does that have any in game effect, such as allowing the two cards to exist under the same controller at the same time?

The Great bear says:

This card is considered Hida Kisada for deck construction and checking the Unique restriction

If the two Kisada cards are distinct, which Kisada is it referring?

Similarly, Yoritomo Hotako is singular, and her experienced is unique. Daigotsu Experienced 3 says nothing about "Yoritomo Hotako" anywhere on it (even though the experienced 2 says 'experienced Yoritomo Hotako 2') Does that mean that Yoritomo Hotako and Daigotsu Hotako (exp 3) can be controlled by the same player at the same time?

Not by itself, but coupled with this:

Legacy Rules, Most Recent Printings: "[S]ome cards share a name despite being separate cards. In such cases, neither card is considered a Most Recent Printing of the other, and they do not conflict with each other with regard to the Unique rule for deck construction or control."

The Great bear says:

Due to a lack of specifics in the trait, technically both. Perhaps that will be changed at some future date, perhaps not...

Similarly, Yoritomo Hotako is singular, and her experienced is unique. Daigotsu [Hotako] Experienced 3 says nothing about "Yoritomo Hotako" anywhere on it (even though the experienced 2 says 'experienced Yoritomo Hotako 2') Does that mean that Yoritomo Hotako and Daigotsu Hotako (exp 3) can be controlled by the same player at the same time?

No, they may not, and that is covered here:

Legacy Format, Experienced: "Cards with Experienced X (Alternate Title) are considered to also have all alternate titles that the Alternate Title card has, for the purposes of deck construction, the Unique rule, and overlaying. Additionally, all higher Experience keyword levels of a card with an Experienced (Alternate Title) keyword are considered to have that alternate title. Example 1: Heigi's "Experienced 5 Akodo Ginawa" keyword is also considered to have the "Ginawa" alternate title, because Akodo Ginawa's Experienced 4 keyword does. Example 2: Shosuro's "Experienced 7" keyword is considered to have the Ninja Shapeshifter alternate title because her Experienced 1 version does."
