Do followers on Sansesuke nullify his ability for ranged?

L5R CCG Rules board, 18 April 2012

A topic from AEG's L5R CCG Rules forum, copied for Oracle of the Void from a copy of the forum saved in October 2015, so pages it didn't save are missing. Players' names are left out; the rules officials are named. Rulings are as they stood on these dates; later rulings, the rulebooks and the Rules Archive may differ.

Shiba Sansesuke:

Reaction: When an action would target your Shugenja at Sansesuke's location, bow Sansesuke: The action targets him instead, if legal.

Say he has a follower and an opponent makes a ranged attack against a shugenja at his location, can he bow and have the ranged target him, or does the follower make him an illegal target. If it can redirect to him, does it redirect to the follower?

Thanks,

Justin

Nothing is keeping you from using his Reaction as a response to a Ranged Attack even if Shiba Sansesuke has a Follower.

However, because he does have the Follower he is not a legal target for the Ranged Attack and the redirection effect will fail, leaving the original target still the target of the Ranged Attack.

The only exception to this would be any Ranged Attacks that can target Personalities with Followers, such as Strategic Strike.
